Got this for my daughter and it never grew. Also it's impossible to get it to look like the picture. Ours was just a mixed up mess and we followed the instructions. I guess for $7 it isn't bad for a activity

Ours didn't grow, if it did, would have been a good purchase at a similar price.

Decent deal as retail price is about 11-12 bucks. Easy activity for preschoolers and younger elementary school kids. My son loved decorating the jar. He was excited to watch the grass grow. There is a packet of grass seed to use a second time. Very simple and for 7 bucks it's a great deal. Don't leave it in direct sunlight as it will dry out the grass.

Ours grew but once it did the grass eventually died and then we didn't really know what to do with it other than toss it. There's no way to start over without mixing up all the layers

It doesn't look hard. Never used one though. The pictures had a bit of landscaping done which is why it looks like that.

You could always rebuild it whenever the plants die.

We bought it. Comes with Chia and lemongrass seeds. It's actually impossible to make it look like the pictures because the scale of the stickers and figure you receive are not the same. The lemongrass will grow to fill the scene and right out the top making it not that interesting to look at. If you want to replant, you can carefully disturb the top layer without completely destroying the lower layers, depending on how deep your plants rooted.

All in all, I'd pass. The jar is plastic. Great for kids except for the fact that they will squeeze and disturb all the dirt and seeds. The little figure is crude and very poor quality (figure pictured is smaller, in a different position and better painted). On the other hand if you dont have any of this stuff around, you wouldn't likely be able to get everything together for $7. But for less than $20, I think you could set yourself up with a little terrarium that's much nicer.

My kids got this as a birthday gift. (Age 5 &7) They loved it. One grew right away and the other took a few more days but both grew. My kids loved watering and watching them both grow every day. I wish we would have measured the growth. That would have been a good learning experience. It held their interest longer than some of the other toys they got so I think it was worth it. Once the plant dies, it just becomes a cup of dirt, rocks and dead grass so it's easy to dispose of (dumped in the backyard) and the cup can be recycled.

Ours grew quickly, my 9 year old loved putting it together & watching it grow. She watering it daily with the mister bottle. However after a few weeks, mold grew too & then it got smelly. Tried to figure out how to scoop out top layer since we saved 1/2 the seeds to add later or for when it died. But the mold grossed us out. She saved the lid to use as an art stencil for circles & mini stars.

I didn't buy this and I don't have anything growing. Sounds like buying it wouldn't change my situation much.
