I think it has been this price for about a month. I bought some during my last trip, but haven't opened the bag yet. I heard it isn't quite as good as Kingsford, but hard to beat the price

Embers 40lb briquettes from Home Depot is $9.98.

It's Royal Oak rebranded for Home Depot.

Burns too hot and burns too fast and too much ash. Not so great quality. Better options out there like B&B, Weber, or even the royal oaks chef select. Yes I know it'll cost more than $5 for a 20lb bag but at the end of the day if you're happy with it, that's all that matters.

Use a charcoal chimney. Google it. Never use fluid.

Or if you have an outlet nearby use a Looft Lighter. Very fast and easy.

This charcoal will release little tiny Embers when you spread it around after it's reached its white ash hot. It does burn quickly which is nice for wait time but it also burns out quickly so plan on adding two extra handfuls over what you would normally vs Kingsford. I've been cooking with coals for 30 years and all the cheaper brands will disappoint somewhat. But what they won't do is leave fluid in the coal. Once the center of the coal has reached red hot you're not getting any fluid transferring into your meat and or vegetables which is why you wait till they're white ash hot. And you certainly cannot taste it. Anybody who tells you otherwise does not know how to cook with coals or they tried cooking their food while the coals still had blackness on them

It's been this price since last year. I use it. It's okay for what I use it for.
