This is a long read but has pretty good info on how audioholics (one of the trustable and knowledgeable reviewers out there) certify each subwoofer they review https://www.audioholics.com/louds...-room-size if you want to skip all reading, the monolith 15 is extreme certified which means this should easily fill spaces greater than 5000 cu feet. Hope this helps

Picture is only half of the movie.
What is more of a question is if you don't care about high end audio, why are you in a thread for it?

I have the SVS PB16 Ultra. It sounds utterly fantastic. I know other subs can go deeper and louder, but it meets my needs well. It also has very low distortion at volume, great looks, great electronics, and excellent software. Also I can pick it up locally. I thought about selling it and getting two 18" subs, but... do I need to shake the building with subsonics and pay with higher distortion in the frequencies I can hear? Meh.

Also audioholics is legit. As is databass.

I researched a lot on subs and finally ended DIY'ing instead of buying pre-build. Best decision ever. 26 inch NSW pro driver in a horn base baltic birch plywood cabinet and a crown xls 2502 amp powering it. 2500 watts of bass heaven for $1100 and 2 weekends of fun build.

Why would anyone pay $1200 for a subwoofer, let alone $1340 ??

I want one of these!!! Or a similar subwoofer!!

When my new house is completed, I'm Giving the ex wife my 5.1 Sonos with Playbar setup. While I think it's a fantastic wireless system, I miss my old wired setup, which I since have set up in my master bedroom. With the Sonos, I "hear" the bass... with my old wired setup with an old Paradigm sub, I "feel" the bass.

Decisions, decisions...

Same reason people pay for luxury cars or any higher end product. At some point you have to comprise between your wallet and "better", this point is just different for everyone.

Patiently waiting on a deal for the Monolith 10...
I had one and quickly returned for an HSU VTF2-MK5 and it was a dramatic difference of higher quality.

Some bassheads like to shake their house AND their neighbors' houses

I picked up 2 of these when they went on sale a couple of weeks (months?) ago. I'm very very happy with their performance so far. Interstellar going into the black hole - freaking amazing. It's a new theater build, so I can't speak to comparisons to other models out there, but I know I'm extremely happy with the 2 I have.

Is this as good as Dayton UM18-22 ? Anyone know?
UM18 in a ported enclosure? Of course the 18 will have more output. In a sealed enclosure it will have similar output though the monolith will have the advantage up too port tune, but then the sealed 18 will extend much lower probably at least into the low teens and then some. I have a UM15 in a sealed enclosure and it extends into the teens with room gain and a little eq. If I remember correctly, I'm around 16hz at -3db with shallow slope towards single digits.

I have two Rythmik FV15HPs and a SVS PB12-plus. All of them are great subs. I highly recommend doing duals instead of singles in almost every scenario.

Any good resource out there to find out how much cubic feet a subwoofer will reliably fill? My house is open concept with a loft and the space where I currently have my home theater is in that open space.
Well much depends what you want out of your sub.

For instance if you're main concern is filling that whole space with sound then you may need two subs.

Keep in mind all a 2nd sub really adds is wider, smoother dispersion doesn't actually improve the sound.

I get many consider more output(dB's) as "improvement" so depends who you ask and believe.

Now if it's just your seating position(s), depending how big that is this can easily suffice.

Again there are many other factors but that's a crucial one along with placement.

The HSU VTF-3 MK5 HP is a much better deal at $500 less. HSU puts out arguably the best bangs for the buck.

Unless a person has the world's most perfect room acoustics, two subs is the way to go to deal with crazy room modes. Dual VTF-3 MK5 subs are $1,549. I'd rather spend $350 more and get that instead of one Monolith sub. The sound will be so much better because a smoother frequency response curve.

Actually, probably more like $500 more for dual VTF-3 MK5s because HSU charges shipping.
I feel that HSU would've sold more units, if they offered free shipping and raised their unit price a little instead. "Free shipping" psychology in general plays with lot of people's minds. It sure does with mine. And even when I know it's playing, I still fall for free shipping Smilie
