Monolith 15" 1000W ported subwoofer $1200($240 discount)

These don't go on sale all that often, so here we go with my 1st post.

I have a pair of the 12" little brothers already, or I would be on this! The 12" version is awesome, this is considerably better.

Ah just in time for my new neighbors that moved in next door... let me show them who's the boss...
This is a long read but has pretty good info on how audioholics (one of the trustable and knowledgeable reviewers out there) certify each subwoofer they review https://www.audioholics.com/louds...-room-size if you want to skip all reading, the monolith 15 is extreme certified which means this should easily fill spaces greater than 5000 cu feet. Hope this helps
Picture is only half of the movie.
What is more of a question is if you don't care about high end audio, why are you in a thread for it?

Any good resource out there to find out how much cubic feet a subwoofer will reliably fill? My house is open concept with a loft and the space where I currently have my home theater is in that open space.
Well much depends what you want out of your sub.

For instance if you're main concern is filling that whole space with sound then you may need two subs.

Keep in mind all a 2nd sub really adds is wider, smoother dispersion doesn't actually improve the sound.

I get many consider more output(dB's) as "improvement" so depends who you ask and believe.

Now if it's just your seating position(s), depending how big that is this can easily suffice.

Again there are many other factors but that's a crucial one along with placement.

The HSU VTF-3 MK5 HP is a much better deal at $500 less. HSU puts out arguably the best bangs for the buck.

Unless a person has the world's most perfect room acoustics, two subs is the way to go to deal with crazy room modes. Dual VTF-3 MK5 subs are $1,549. I'd rather spend $350 more and get that instead of one Monolith sub. The sound will be so much better because a smoother frequency response curve.

Actually, probably more like $500 more for dual VTF-3 MK5s because HSU charges shipping.
I feel that HSU would've sold more units, if they offered free shipping and raised their unit price a little instead. "Free shipping" psychology in general plays with lot of people's minds. It sure does with mine. And even when I know it's playing, I still fall for free shipping Smilie

How does this compare to the other in my list? i have read a ton of reviews, suggestions etc etc on many forums but my research is still ongoing.

I am holding on till Thanksgiving for either Monoprice Monolith 15" THX or Rythmik FV15HP or HSU VTF-15H-MK2 or PSA V1512 or PSAV1812.

I know there are not a ton of deals on sub-woofers usually but i am strapped for cash at the moment and i can wait before purchasing anything as i am still looking for options to start my basement home theater setup from scratch as i do not have any piece of equipment as of now.

The order feel like to choose before making a decision.
Rythmik
HSU
Monolith
PSA
If you're starting from scratch, you might consider concentrating on your speakers 1st.

A sub is important with HT but keep in mind it's active sporadically, speakers are active constantly and plays a bigger role with producing the quality of sound of what you are hearing.

How does this compare to REL 1508? Would this pair well with that sub? I wonder if it's a good/bad idea to mix 2 different model subs like that...?

This thread reminds me of the DIY builds I did for myself and my son in early 2000s: Built myself a cylindrical ported subwoofer using Adire Audio 15" tempest with the 74 cubic liter layout which was their recommended volume for optimal HT/Musicality. I used the green sewer pipe you commonly see at road construction sites. 13foot long section was delivered to me for this. The wall of the pipe was over 5/8" thick. You can sit on it and not compress the pipe. No cyclindrical subwoofer can even come close to that strength on the market. That sub was about 4 feet high. Also made 2 more subs for my son who was doing DJ stuff while in high school. Used Adire Audio 18" Maelstroms. They were driven by a 2x1000 watt amplifier. Needless to say, they brought upon an audience in his high school true nausea. The bass was relentless.

Look up Adire Audio. The original ownership. Best engineered drivers of the day. They even had a product ready to market called the Parthenon. It will make the Monoprice feel like child's play.

I've seen their ratings but as my room is more like 15-20k cubic feet (open concept plus loft) I wasn't sure if I could trust their info as relevant.
You might want to check out JTR (jtrspeakers.com) to fill that big of space.

As others mentioned, Audioholics and data-bass are reputable sites and you can rely on their reviews.

Even a sub that Audioholics says is good for a 5K ft^3 room will have a hard time filling 3-4x that amount of space.

Bought this sub last year. Best addition to my home theater, hands down. This sub alone used to cost more than all my speakers (7 floor and 4 ceiling mounted) combined. I have since upgraded my LCR, so no longer the case, but I was still happy with my low tier floor speakers and this beast. My only complaint is that it is tall and therefor hard to fit under a screen standing upright. I have it in a 2200 cuft room. I plan on buying a second one hopefully later this year or sometime next year rather than going the diy route.

How does the monolith 15 compare with vtf3-mk5? I have a hard time deciding between the two. Currently have a monolith 10 and while I love the clean bass it produces I feel like it lacks punch in my basement now. Used to be in my 13x11 bedroom and it was great.
I would hate to try to pick a favorite sub in the 1k to 1.5k price range. So many amazing options

Curious as to how this compares with a PSA V1512?

https://www.powersoundaudio.com/products/V1512

On paper, the 15" Monoprice has 1000W RMS, and "nearly 2000W peak"

On paper, the 15" PSA has 960W RMS, and 2100W peak.

Unrelated note, I personally have the PSA V1812 (18" version!). I have inadvertently shattered wine glasses two rooms away in the kitchen with this thing. At least 5 different times if memory serves me correctly. I finally had to "rubberize" all my wine glass holders to prevent any more glass shatterings.

PSAV1812.
I have the PSAV1812. All of your other mentioned brands were on my very short list of brands I'd buy from, but a manufacturer refurbished (on his main website) 1812 popped up for way too good of a deal to pass up so I pulled the trigger. This thing is a monster. See my above post. If I were you, I'd just bookmark PSA's outlet page and just check in daily and wait until you get the sub of your dreams for much cheaper. Not just me, but according to most reputable audiophile websites, PSA is one of the best at bang-for-the-buck at full retail value. If you get lucky and can get a refurb discount? Even better.
