I wish stupid samsung would hurry up and get the 980 pro out before the dell amex deal goes away. they sometimes surprise with a sooner than expected release, but people keep thinking it will be august, which would be too late for the deal...

Samsung EVO 970 1TB is $30 less right now and much better performance

The Samsung EVO 970 is a PCIe 3.0 drive and this is a PCIe 4.0 drive that is significantly faster in nearly every measurable metric:

You're going to need an amd mobo to use 4.0 right now. Either B550 or X570.

Put it in one of the newer amd boards and you'll get the full potential.

does this have boot firmware? I know my HP z420 workstation doesn't support booting from m2 drives (put in a pci adapter) unless their have bootable firmware embedded. I think only the old Samsung evos had that.

I thought people were having issue running at full speed with this. That's probably why I didn't buy one

Right now you need a AMD x570 or B550 for pcie gen 4 support at full speed.

You can use this as a boot drive without any issue, been doing it with my Windows desktop PC since day 1.

I guess if you put this gen 4 drive in a gen 3 mobo then maybe your statement is true?

Gaming load time is measurable and this drive loses to a lot PCIe. 3.0 drive which cost more or less $130. It will be even less noticeable on real world task like web browsing and office work. Nobody runs benchmark 24/7
