The Costco Sonicare 5000 has 2 brush settings, while the 5100 has 3 settings and the 4100 has 1 setting. It comes with a travel case for each handle, like the 5100, which is not included for the 4100. It also has one extra brush included (3 total brushes included for 2 handles). The Costco 5000 is currently clearance priced at $79.97. It was on sale in March this year for $69.99 when it was $30 off the list price of $99.99. I purchased it on sale at that time.

So to summarize, right now for the Costco 5000, you get 1 brush head extra plus two travel cases for $10 more, compared to buying 2 4100s. You also get two brush settings instead of 1. I don't find 2 settings necessary - I just use "clean" all the time. Sometimes on the 5000 I also find myself accidentally changing the cleaning setting instead of turning on and off the brush because there are 2 buttons instead of 1 button on the 4100.

Been using generic for diamond clean forever. Not a big difference at all. Huge savings.
Link please? Do you have a certain brand you like or just search for generic diamond clean forever.

I have this exact toothbrush, the first one lasted for like 2 years until it stopped charging but it was still under warranty so I contacted philips and they sent me a brand new one without the toothbrush head or the charger. I usually replace the head every 3 months, it takes a while to charge but usually it will give you a warning vibrate on the last brush when you need to charge it so you don't have to worry about guessing.

You guys seem really knowledgeable. About this series. What about the 5000 sonicare that's available at Costco for $80 for two. If I need two anyways is it worth the extra cost?

The thing is you never need 2 chargers, I've had the 4100 for almost 3 years, the first one broke down in about 2 years and I got it replaced under warranty for free from Philips. I have also never brought it traveling, I just use a manual tooth brush for that so I don't see the need for the carrier either. Imo they are about the same deal its up to you though.

Anyone care to weigh on on brush heads? Generic? Brand? Best price? Honestly that's been the biggest hurdle in switching to an electric toothbrush. The heads are so expensive compared to a regular tooth brush. With how much they cost they should be giving the handles away for free.
you can find replacement head on amazon, I switched to an off brand toothbrush head and it seems to do the same thing.

I can also vouch for the off brand replacement heads. Super cheap, and work great.
I have to disagree. I have had bad luck with generic brush heads.
