I bought this knife specifically to open packages 3 years ago and It's holding up great. Definately a crap knife overall but for less than $20 I love it and much prefer it over a box cutter for amazon packages.

Kershaw's usually have reversible clips. I didn't check this one to see, but if that's what's holding you up, you definitely should check.

No. This knife is garbage in just about every way. 8CR13 is pretty much the low end of knife steel these days and this knife is lower grade than that. Amazon has the Kershaw Thistle for a few bucks more. It is a decent, inexpensive knife with a unique lock feature that pretty much makes it impossible to cut yourself closing the knife. I can not imagine a reason to chose the Filter over it. Certainly not to save three bucks.

I think the poster is speaking to the way the knife lies in pocket(blade pointing up or down), not the clip on the left or right.
It looks like this knife is tip down only. I prefer tip up.

These have been a staple in the Wally World knife case for around $14 for a long time. I have one of these and not sure why I love it so much. Not the most elegant knife I own. It's heavy duty and a real chunk in your pocket because of it's all steel construction. The blade steel is lowly 4Cr14, but it takes a sharp edge uber easy, it just needs to be sharpened more often. Assisted opening is supper snappy via the flipper. Handle edges are all melted no sharp spots and it's comfortable to grip with decent jimping. Feels good in the hand the way a crescent wrench might. Using some threadlocker on the screws is a must as they started working their way on mine. Clip is right side tip down only. If I ever had to use this knife in self-defense, I would probably leave it closed and throw it at my attacker while running away.

I have beat the hell out of this knife, cutting tar-backed window wrap, prying up nails, whatever. It's really heavy for the size, and solid. Don't like the steel? Then don't plan on dressing game with it. It's a workhorse. And I agree with Paladin3 that it sharpens easily.

My problem isn't with the quality of the knife but value of this deal. It's basically the regular price.
