Technically it would start it, but it isn't a starting battery. Typically a starting battery is rated in Cold Cranking Amps, where most deep cycle batteries are rated in amp hours. They have a different plate design, starting batteries have more surface areas to deliver maximum amperage for a very short period of time. Deep cycle batteries are designed to deliver a lower amperage for a longer period of time.
Anybody thinking these are good for off grid system small diy home projects?
this is a regular battery, not deep cycle. They are made for two very different applications.

When the power goes out at our house, it's normally out for 12 hours or so. During this time, the only thing we really miss is internet service. So, I run a small $20 inverter [harborfreight.com] plugged into the cigarette lighter plug of the car in the garage, then run an extension cord into the house. It's just enough power to run the internet modem, the wireless router, and a light bulb. Keeps us happy, cheap solution.

I've been wanting a deep cycle battery to keep charged up in the garage to use instead. I think at this price point, it's time to pull the trigger. No more worries about running the battery low in the car.

Also, I'm starting to get into controlling electrical circuits with a raspberry Pi. This 12V battery would be great to have on my work bench to power up any type of motor/pump/circuits being controlled by the Pi.

Thanks OP!

thanks.

i keep killing my car battery because of the always on cigarette lighter socket.
i have my dashcam plugged it and sometimes forget to unplug it.

after doing that a few times, the battery no longer holds enough charge for me to start my car.
have replaced the battery twice in my 4year old car.

are there any deep charge car batteries? (yeah, alternatively, i can get rid of the dash cam.)
There should be another outlet in your car that isn't always-on, typically somewhere near or inside the middle armrest. My truck has it inside the armrest and my dashcam's wire is long enough to route it to that outlet.

Or, this one for $63 [amazon.com]

Like the post below yours suggested, Costco is the best place. They sell interstate batteries that cost about the same as the shitty ones at walmart. Batteries themselves have 36 month warranty with free replacement. My battery died some days ago, took it to Costco, and they gave me a replacement right away (I also had the option of getting a full refund) because it was still within the 36 months. No questions asked. I just had to pay the price difference of when I bought it vs the current price, which was only like $4. Of course there's no warranty in the replacement though, so next time I would have to buy a new one if this one dies within 36 months.

Will two of these connected be able to replace the 24v battery used in the mower? TIA
If you are running them in "series" for an electric mower, yes this will work fine... just understand you have to charge in "parallel" config , or just charge one at a time

I did a quick check and I'm reading that they can regularly go down to 20% without adverse effect. I mean, that's their entire reason for being, to be DEEPLY discharged. I'm sure that that life expectancy curve starts to drop once you regularly go below 50% discharge and if possible you don't want to go much below that regularly, but it probably doesn't really start to go south until you regularly go below 20%. For many applications, the only way to avoid regularly going below 50% is to either install more batteries, cut back on usage, or switch to a power storage method where deep cycling isn't an issue, like LiON, pumped hydro or compressed air, and for many applications, that's not feasible, or it's not necessary, e.g. the cost of switching to more resilient storage methods outweighs the savings of frequent replacement of deep cycle batteries.
Down past 50% is a good way to destroy your batteries, even 50% will halve the life of them. Lithium is cheaper over the long term. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rp8Hspi4BC4

Cheapo inverter works ok for the electronics? I'm thinking about putting together a DIY pack, mostly for tailgating, but I figure I need a pure sine wave inverter to be safe, especially because I may charge a laptop or something in an emergency. By the time I factor in cost of a pure sine wave inverter, doesn't seem like I come out that far ahead of some of the retail (liOn) power pack options.

I repeat, DEEP cycle, designed to be drained well beyond where it's wise to drain car batteries. I did some more checking and they're fine till being drained to 20% capacity, although if you do this regularly they'll wear out faster than if you drain them no more than 50%, but not by THAT much. Roughly, if regularly drained to 20% vs. 50%, they'll last half as long. But since you're getting 30% extra power from them, you're still getting a total power output over their service life that's comparable to ones drained no more than 50%.

Do the math. If a 10AH deep cycle battery is drained to 50% before being fully recharged again, and you can do this for say 500 cycles before it no longer holds a charge, over those 500 cycles you're getting 500 x 10 x 0.5 = 2500AH over its useful life. If you drain the same battery to 20%, you can only do this 250 times before it dies, and over those 250 cycles you're getting 250 x 10 x 0.8 = 2000AH over its useful life, or 20% less total output over its useful life than if drained only to 50%. That's not trivial, but it's also not THAT significant, for most uses, and for most people is worth it just to get some more juice out of them before recharging, depending on the application. It's when you regularly drain much below 20% that you really start to kill the battery prematurely.

I've had no issues powering the internet modem, router, lamp, and charging phones/tablets/laptops, with the cheap inverter.
