Technically it would start it, but it isn't a starting battery. Typically a starting battery is rated in Cold Cranking Amps, where most deep cycle batteries are rated in amp hours. They have a different plate design, starting batteries have more surface areas to deliver maximum amperage for a very short period of time. Deep cycle batteries are designed to deliver a lower amperage for a longer period of time.
Anybody thinking these are good for off grid system small diy home projects?
this is a regular battery, not deep cycle. They are made for two very different applications.

I'm confused.. For a mower tractor, is this a good buy? Mine keeps on dying every few months and I keep on recharging it to start the tractor....

,$160 per kWh, not bad. Good if you don't want to have to deal with a li-ion BMS or shell out for lifepo.

Cheapo inverter works ok for the electronics? I'm thinking about putting together a DIY pack, mostly for tailgating, but I figure I need a pure sine wave inverter to be safe, especially because I may charge a laptop or something in an emergency. By the time I factor in cost of a pure sine wave inverter, doesn't seem like I come out that far ahead of some of the retail (liOn) power pack options.
Try finding a car charger for your laptop and as much else as you can. It will be more efficient than going 12vDC to 120vAC to ~19vDC.

Im guessing TVs are the main thing people tailgate with that needs AC power.

thanks.

i keep killing my car battery because of the always on cigarette lighter socket.
i have my dashcam plugged it and sometimes forget to unplug it.

after doing that a few times, the battery no longer holds enough charge for me to start my car.
have replaced the battery twice in my 4year old car.

are there any deep charge car batteries? (yeah, alternatively, i can get rid of the dash cam.)
Just hard wire it into an item that only powers up once started. The best way to install. Why have that plug and the wires out?

How is this compared to other 35AH deep cycle batteries on Amazon that are normally ~$65?

Just hard wire it. Why have all of the wires and a lighter plug always in the way? tap in to anything that comes on only upon start up with the ignition.

It depends on your type of use. If all you're doing is charging small electronics I think its fine. Keep in mind this is a lead acid battery so you can only run the battery down to about 50% before it'll drop voltage. Since it's a 35aH battery meaning you should get about 17aH out of it. Opposed to lithium where you can run it down to 100%. That along with how light weight lithium is, is why they cost so much compared to lead acid. Best thing to do is calculate the energy consumption of your devices. This size battery is comparable to the one in the Goal Zero Yeti 400W (non lithium) which is right at 33aH. If you build a battery box for it you could add a battery charger to hook up to the 12v of your car while driving and also a solar charge controller.

I run a 12v Dometic fridge in my 4Runner and have a dual battery system with two Northstar group 35 batteries. Both are AGM and are about 65aH each. They're connected to a solenoid which links the batteries when the car is on and both batteries are charged via the alternator. When the car shuts off and voltage drops then the batteries are disconnected automatically so I won't drain my starter battery and be stuck. I can probably run the fridge for about 1.5 days before it completely drains the battery.

I think this battery is fine for charging devices. However if you're going to be running something constantly off it like a fridge then you should at least constantly charge it with a maintainer or solar. Otherwise a bigger battery is a better option.
I second this. I had a solar setup with 100w panel and it charged great into a 12v setup. Perfect for led lights. Charging tools periodically. A few times I left tools charging too long and it was downhill from there.

Also solar panels, depending on placement, don't recharge the battery quickly enough during longer bouts of darkness (like winter), cloudy days, etc. Take all of that into account when choosing your battery.

I've read that you can use a deep cycle marine battery for a Watch Dog sump pump. Anyone know if this will work or have opinions on something like this versus the expensive ones that Watch Dog sells?

I pretty sure 12v battery savers are around, might be your cheapest route.

AGM batteries for cars definitely exist, they might be a little pricey in some peoples' eyes. XS Power is one the the top brands, Optima yellowtops you can find at autozone.

if you are looking for a cheap car battery, i run one of these in my miata for the last two years:
https://www.pepboys.com/champion-...ct/1767582

$38.39, but you have to pick it up, they won't ship it, and with a battery that small, it's not something that you'll want to use in a big vehicle, or during winter in snow country.

i had to drill out the post holes slightly bigger, and buy adapters to fit the battery cables... also had to put a piece of wood under the battery to fit the hold-down clamp.

If you don't mind some diy... Just hook a solenoid with splices, a few butt connectors and spade connectors to power off the red wire on the deck to energize the solenoid and switch existing power to run through. Then it will be just like a Honda, IGN off cig off.
