Rocket League: Free to Play This Summer

https://www.rocketleague.com/news...is-summer/Rocket League will release on the Epic Games Store on PC the same time it goes free to play. This version of the game will be identical to the version found on other platforms, and will feature cross-platform play anywhere you play Rocket League, including between the Epic Games Store and Steam.

Once Rocket League goes free to play, anyone who already owns Rocket League on any platform (including Steam) will be able to play and enjoy the game with full support for future updates and features. However, the Steam version will no longer be available to download for new players. To put it simply, wherever you play now (including Steam), you'll still be able to play in the future.

Anyone who has played Rocket League online before the launch of free to play will be rewarded with Legacy status, which includes:
  • All Rocket League-branded DLC released before free to play
  • "Est. 20XX" title that displays the first year you played Rocket League
  • 200+ Common items upgraded to "Legacy" quality
  • Golden Cosmos Boost
  • Dieci-Oro Wheels
  • Huntress Player Banner
In addition, if you've played online before this announcement, you will also receive the Faded Cosmos Boost. Legacy rewards will be granted once the free to play version launches later this summer. Check out the items in the slideshow below!

Does this mean the Switch version will require an active Switch Online account for offline play? I've had it on my wishlist for a while, waiting for the next sale to pick it up. Free is even better, but wondering if that means it's time to pick up the Online sub.

more then likely, since its mostly an online game plus nintendo online is a solid 20 dollars a year, i picked up online a few months ago and dont regret it. especially with how everyone elses services are like 10 a month...

Sounds to me like Epic has bought the rights to RL, or is in talks to.

Sad... Means not enough people are willing to pay for the game I once loved...
I hope it doesn't become TOXIC due to a bunch of misbehaving kids whose parents didn't feel they're behaving well enough to deserve a $20 game in the first place.

Should be free on all platforms (Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, & Epic Games)

They are removing it from Steam, so buy from there before it gets pulled if want it on Steam. Supposedly you can still play it on Steam though if you own it before it goes Free-to-play.

Why are they adding a gamepad-based game to a client that barely has DS4 controller support, let alone any controller customizability options? Oh right, using competitor clients at the same time is now a prerequisite for this kind of stuff. Gotta love 3+ clients with GTA5.
