Actually makes a lot of sense considering the support layer of the bed is almost always min. 6 inches ...leaving you with only 1 inch for the cushion layer (softer material)

Actually it's not entirely true as the nicer mattress like this one have 6 high density support foam (which costs more than the other foams). Most 8" mattress on Amazon have only 4" base foam and wear out/sag faster
