I have to say, I'm really not happy with TiVo.

I bought aTiVo Bolt around a year ago, after I heard about the imminent release of the TiVo apps for Roku, FireTV, and Apple TV. I was excited about ditching satellite devices for my additional TVs, and was further sold by the ability to stream content to my mobile devices when away from home.

Of course, the announced apps were never delivered. And aside from a very PC on-topic press release, they've all but said that they're dead.

I also discovered that a huge portion of the remote streaming possibilities can be disallowed by the content provider. And, in my experience, that's the case on almost everything I have tried to stream.

So, the end result is I now pay a subscription to TiVo for the sole purpose of receiving scheduling info; something I'd receive from my cable provider if I were just using their box. And while my TiVo has more tuners and hard drive space, I don't really need the extra tuners, and if I were under the gun on space I'd just be more up-to-date in cleaning out the shows I've watched or (apparently) don't actually care if I watch.

TiVo, in my mind, is all about unfulfilled potential and broken promises.

I have had a great experience with them. I got it for the purpose of not paying for the verizon boxes. The cost I paid for these units has already been offset by the savings since it has been over a few years. (and that includes paying for lifetime) But I am not cutting the cord.

I also replaced my father's comcast boxes with these and got him lifetime too and its saved him a ton. That will pay itself off at the end of this year..

The only bummer is no disneyplus, or any new streaming apps that came after that. But that can be offset with a roku or something.

So as a solution to keep cable or fios, it works well. For the sole purpose of streaming? Get the tivo 4k stream stick or another type of stream stick.

Or get the TiVo Stream 4K. I never use the TiVo app on it and use it exclusively as a 4K Android TV stick for those apps.

It is a fantastic device and never ceases to please me. As a bonus it would be the first to get a streaming TiVo app is they ever follow through with that.

$638 with tax is still too much for a TiVo. Better off just getting a used lifetime Roamio for less than 1/2 that and a Roku or Fire stick for the apps.

Would agree. A lifetime bolt is another good option but it runs hot.

The edge has just a few new features and better cooling but it's too soon to know about reliability considering the price.

I will say that TiVo has pretty good support about replacing things if things break. Which they can.

Does this use 2.5 or 3.5 inch Hard drives.

One thing i hate about my bolt vs roamio and before boxes is the move to 2.5 inch drives in a much smaller enclosure, resulting in a much louder fan and even then the thing runs very hot. It has caused 2 cablecards to go bad already and i fear it will make the hard drive go bad soon.

i am pretty disappointed in that I cannot get ethernet adapter to work. i have 2 ethernet usb-c adapter and a usb-A ethernet adapter with usb-c adapter and none them work. Thus, i cannot get 4k stream because I guess my wifi is not fast enough?? So i am paying for a 4k device which displays the menu in 4k but not the streams (should be the other way around).

So get a compatible ethernet adapter, e.g. ugreen, or fix your WiFi dead spots? I'm not sure how you can blame the device if you insist on wanting to only use what you have laying around instead of fixing the root of the problem.

I just bought a new car and want to use the extra 22" wiper blades I had stockpiled, but that's not how it works.

I'm a huge TiVo fan and ignored all the hate for the Stream 4K, assuming it was due to user error. Holy crap it sucks. No 4K with Vudu? Anything through Movies Anywhere refuses to play in 4K through partner services. So it's good for Netflix And YouTube 4K. To add insult to injury, every day or so I have to reactivate it with the code on TiVo.com.

The problem with TIVO and Cable systems is that the techs don't know crap about the system and when you have a problem with your cable service you are lucky to get everything made right . I have had at least 5 techs out in the last month and a half trying to dianose a problem and get my cable tv working again. None of them has ever seen a TIVO before and don't know diddly about a tuning adapters either (required for Spectrum). Tuning adapters go bad and are notorious for causing problems and needing replacement (In addition I don't believe anyone is making new ones).

Spectrum did away with cable card support personell. The local office has -0- cable cards on hand and -0- tuning adapters on hand. Customer service over the phone cannot send out units for customers to replace themselves so an appointment must be scheduled many days ahead for them to get equipment.

Spectrum replaced the cable card for me and I sweated that I might lose my TIVO while the untrained techs were screwing around.

A senior tech told me that Spectrum would like to lose the TV end of their business and are not adverse to making it difficult for customers with anything out of the ordinary. He stated that if it were not for FCC requirements that allow customers to use their own equipment, they would ignore me.

Hope your provider is different.

Sad but true. There are more outhouses than TiVo boxes in the country.

Tivo advertises the usb-c port as being able to use ethernet port with usb-c, yet no usb-c ethernet adapter works. Yet no usb-c ethernet adapter works. The ugreen is a micro USB adapter that requires usb-c to micro adapter. It shouldn't be this hard to find an adapter that works. At least sell one that works then. It's not like that ugreen is easy to find on normal buying places.
