    What does the SD motorcycle sub-hive think of this oil? I have a 2016 Honda CB500x. Honda of course recommends Pro Honda GN4 10W30. The upper viscosity number differs from the oil that is the subject of this deal. Normally I wouldn't be concerned about that in a car. But with a motorcycle, I'm thinking about the wet clutch and how it could affect shifting. Thoughts, input would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

    majorhavoc: Castrol makes highly-rated motorcycle oils. A bike with a wet-clutch will normally let you know when it's time for an oil change - shifting will become difficult and/or you will start missing shifts. Whatever you do, do not buy an oil with friction modifiers - the modifiers can ruin your clutch. (That's why car oils generally are not recommended for bikes.) A lot of us use diesel engine oil when we cannot find a good sale on motorcycle oil, especially those of us who change oil in less than the recommended mileage. Your owner's manual probably lists a variety of weights appropriate for the bike. 10w-30 is usually for winter and cool climate driving; 10w-40 and 15w-40 for summer; and 20w-50 if you're crazy enough to live in Phoenix in the summer and ride a motorcycle. (I was a lunatic for about a year. AZ is beautiful, but the word "hot" does not begin to describe what 110+ feels like on a bike.) When my bike was much newer (like 100,000 miles ago), I used to prefer Valvoline VR-1 Racing Oil for motorcycles.

    been using it for my 2018 ninja 650 for a while now without any issues, 10-40 is usually for the warmer weather as compared to 10-30
