Anybody ever make their own cat toys?
I guess I need to just buy some catnip in bulk, bunch of feathers for cheap, and use some old garments, socks whatever for the shell.

I have made our own cat toys for years. The cats like them better. Sew socks together or fill one end with some catnip, knot it off and it is commandeered by the nearest cat! The shipping straps on cases of copy paper are another favorites of a couple of series of cats who have let me live here! M =^..^=

I'm looking for a mechanical floppy fish. Most of the ones I see do not move on their own.

Amazon has tons of flippity fish type toys. They seemed to be pretty much the same so I ordered one of the less expensive ones [amazon.com]. It's nice. The fabric is soft, it actually looks like a fish and it charges quickly. It flops when touched. The downside is that the motor is kind of noisy, which some cats might not appreciate.

Screw it, just attach a string to it, and cast it to your cats.
