HP Pavilion Desktop: Intel i7 10700, 256GB PCIe M.2 SSD, 12GB DDR4 RAM, Win 10 Expired

I've owned a few HPs built into this form factor. Points:
-The case is tiny and lightweight. Like, much smaller than you'd realize when you think "tower computer." It's about a foot square on the side.
-The motherboard is nonstandard as well. The front ports and power switch are actually part of motherboard itself.
-The power supply is teeny-tiny, but if you must, they do make a gaming version of this tower so there is a 400W(?) power supply available you could track down. Good enough for a 1650 or whatever.
-It does have room for two 3.5" hard drives.

I've noticed a lot of the computer threads on Slickdeals immediately turn into "How can I build this into a GAMING MONSTER?" conversations. Realize some computers just aren't designed for that, period. A PC doesn't necessarily suck because you can't drop a GTX2080 into it.

Although I will say that as far as small towers with poor expansion, these little HPs are a worse value than SFF Optiplexes or whatever just based on the build quality I've observed.



The spec sheet says it's an NVMe drive.

Compatible desktop system if you build if yourself, $800 total, yes,its more expensive than staples, however, but you are getting much better parts that will last. HP for the most part use the cheapest components possible and upgrade options are very limited. I put together a complete system if I were to built it today. Prices change all the time, so shop around at places like Amazon, Newegg and Microcenter. Try to sick to no more than 2 places when buying parts, if you buy parts from many places, if can be very hard to keep track of what you bought in case of warranty isuses. Please don't buy open box/refurbished motherboards or cpu's, you are just asking for trouble on that end. Hope this helps. I am not bashing HP, if you want a pre-built system, got for it.

This looks like the kind of adequate system that makes you realize what you should have bought. I think anyone who needs 12gb ram really wants 16, the nvme drive is a plus but doesn't make sense with the rest of the build. The real issue I have is the 180w per supply.
This is specced great for a mid-range laptop but pretty minimal for a desktop at this price point.
