Has Shutterfly's paper and film quality improved recently. The reason I ask is while they are pretty cheap, their quality is just not good enough for memories people would want to keep for a long time

It keeps defaulting me to Hard Cover, any advice? I clicked Simple Path and then chose 8x8 but then it automatically seems to have selected hardcover.

I get the premium layflat pages and they turn out georgous.

Many years ago I did get the standard pages and you are correct, they are pretty "meh". The glossy option helps make them pop some, but I personally think the premium layflat is worth it, especially if you are wanting to keep it for long term memories.

I got one last year for our summer vacation pictures. For what it was, it was worth the money (cheap) for good quality prints. There were multiple cases where you could see different black levels in the same picture, so not great for forever/legacy prints, but great for knock around memory books for kids.
