This dock has the ability to act as a hub for a wide range of devices that support display output over USB-C. Using it along w/ the travel adapter set, and the Covert Dock replaces almost three devices, rather than just the Nintendo Switch Dock. The Genki Covert Dock for Nintendo Switch is $11.24 cheaper with coupon code: FRIENDOFAFRIEND (15% off)

I believe the coupon works for other items in the Genki store, but this certainly makes the price of the dock more palatable.

The Verge had a pretty good review of it. [theverge.com]

The switch only has 2 options for a dock that has both power and hdmi output. This and the factory dock. The switch HAS to be powered a special way when any dock is in use with hdmi.
And after reading through reviews of that top one, a few people had their Switches brick. Any usb c powered third party dock can power the switch and dock for TV, but this Covert Dock is carefully rated to match the official Nintendo Switch dock.
Awesome product and great company. Have backed their kickstarters and can definitely say these are built solid.

Actually not too bad of a deal. I was a backer and paid $67 after shipping. I do like mine very much and it works really well. It comes with a USB-C cable as well. You'll have to provide your own HDMI cable.

I backed this on Kickstarter and I love it! Worth it! Can charge other USB C electronics and connect other USB electronics as well when traveling. Comes with a 90 degree USB C cable and the prongs fold for easy storage.

I really want to pull the trigger on this, but I can't justify the cost with a current functioning OEM switch dock. I don't mind packing the OEM dock when traveling. Keep in mind when using this to not block the exhaust fans on the back of the switch, you will need a tabletop stand that allows air flow so it won't overheat. Setting it down will block those exhaust fans. Although, it does have a right angle usb-c cable, so you may be able to use the kickstand while plugging it in rather than a stand. Maybe someone who has one can verify.

There are many dock alternatives for the Switch. Any of these can be powered with a USB c power source.

The top one is only $20 too 🤔

wondering the same thing, many usb c hdmi adapter that works with nintendo switch for $20 or less, pair it with a compatible power adapter it's a lot cheaper and not any bigger in size
According to the marketing, what Genki, and other well-regarded Switch accessories companies like Skull&Co, have done is built their products specifically to accommodate the Switch's unique charging scheme. The Switch was built to use its own proprietary charging instead of standard Intel's USB Power Delivery (tm). They claim incompatibilities with the weird Switch scheme is what caused bricking with some third party docks. So given the risks, I'm spending the extra 20 bucks or so on known reliable products instead of a random dongle that Jim Bob said was okay on his Amazon review. I aint bricking my limited edition Switch. Others are free to do as they see fit with the risk and cost.

I see Genki lists their charger as providing 30 W. That seems too low for the Switch. That's a dealbreaker for me unless I see a compelling explanation.

Skull&Co has their dock on sale for $39 today. I'll buy that and plug my OEM Nintendo charger into it.

The budget solution is to just lay it face down, assuming you have a screen protector.

I had the same concerns, cost and needing a stand. Going with another product, as mentioned in another post but not gonna repeat here so I don't look like a shill. lol.
