I have read quite a few of Asimov's stories and while he has a great imagination and his stories are excellent, his writing ability is a bit "high school".

Agreed. The movie was very loosely inspired by the stories in I Robot, but it's not really even remotely an adaptation. How could you really adapt a series of short stories anyway... They would have been way better off doing caves of steel, you've got your trilogy all lined up before you start that way... Not sure why they didn't.
