The Corsair MP600 uses the new PCIe 4.0 specification which allows this drive to reach speeds up to 4950 MBps reads. To take full advantage you need to use a newer motherboard like the AMDRyzen X570 platform or Threadripper TRX40 boards. Tom's provide one of many reviews on the net

Basically wondering if a drive like this could still outperform gen3 drives even with the pcie bottleneck.
Agreed. I've been google searching Samsung 980 pro for weeks.
That and SSDs that will be using the Phison e18 controller. Drives were supposed to already be release but I'm assuming there are some COVID related delays. I'm sure they will start coming out in September.
You can remove the heat sink. Dunno if that help with fitment in your case

Where did hear that rumor from?
Just do some light googling. Shouldn't be hard to find some info on Samsung 980 and phison e18 SSDs.
The motherboards I'm looking at have heat sinks over the nvme slots. So I would only take off the Corsair heat sink in that case.
