I don't see how you can go off reviews, unless they're about quality control problems, but not based on sound quality. I bought ELAC speakers everyone were going nuts about on forums, based on reviews alone. I thought they were going to sound like nothing I ever heard before after reading the reviews... But I absolutely hated how they sounded. I returned them after trying to like them for almost a month.

After that I listened to a lot of speakers, and ended going with a full Klipsch RP series setup. A lot of people said they're too bright, but they sound perfect to my ears. I've been really happy with them. I'm no sound engineer but I am a musician if that means anything or not, I don't know... Maybe the Klipsch are bright, but I thought the ELACs sounded dull and muddy, so maybe my ears like bright speakers. I know this doesn't apply to subwoofers but long story short, I don't go by speaker sound reviews anymore. It's tough to know what will sound good to you compared to a reviewers ears... Reviews are good for build quality but to me thats about it... So I guess it depends on what they said in the reviews.

I say go listen to as many speakers as you can till you find some that sound good to you.

I've tried both and the r112sw was noticeably louder and sounded better to me. But whether its worth almost double the price is questionable. Depends on a lot of things... your finances and what you would like to spend, how big of a room you're using it in, whether you currently have a sub or not, etc.

If you don't have a sub now, the cheaper one would make a huge difference... The r112sw is a noticeable upgrade, but you would have to decide if its worth it to you.

Yamaha receivers are good.
With subs you get what you pay for typically

I would save, spend more on an HSU, that Monoprice deal that is out there, SVS, or Rythmik. What is likely to happen here is you spend $300 and want to upgrade it in 18 months, and then spend $600-700 to get one of those which I mentioned
That depends on the rest of your speaker config. This sub will practically work with anything.

I have a jamo j112 that apparently just died (no power). From what I understand this is basically the same sub, right? Would this be good to put in a 10x11 room?
Yes. Yes.

I just got it in yesterday. I did notice that it is smaller form factor than the Jamo. Is that normal?

Performance should be on par despite the design. My jamo has slot in rear whereas the Klipsch version has it in front and has a different baffle design and grill. You should pull the old jamo sub amp out and see if you can actually see the fault. Probably a blown $1 component. Lol.

Do the black ones ever go on sale like this? Would like to pick a couple up soon to finish off my system. Maybe around Black Friday? Thx!

I had to return Klipsch subwoofer after I tried it in my room. That said, without easy return it might be risky.
In my case, there were so much port noise and even though it was loud it sounded worse than Bic-12 it was replacing.

I'm guessing you are talking about the ELAC Uni-Fi UB5.

People who hate on these speakers almost always didn't drive them correctly.

You need a great amp to drive them. I own the UB5s and they blew me away. It's so important to look up your amplifiers ohms to see if you are powering them correctly.

I get so tired of seeing people hating on these speakers. They are truly amazing and audiophile status.

I feel the same. I used to love my Klipsch subs, until I upgraded to SVS, Monoprice in that order. That's when I realized I was missing so much earlier. Anyone buying a sub needs to keep in mind that power is one thing that any sub with a beefy amp can deliver, but getting down to those lower frequencies and without losing power is no cake walk. And for doing that walk, you need to spend more. Name any Klipsch sub that does really good below 30hz. Having said that, for those that don't care below 30hz (or at a low power), almost any Klipsch sub is a really good buy.

I just want to spend about $300 myself. Is this Klipsch at this price good for the price or is there better?

Other one is maybe a sale on this:
https://www.svsound.com/products/pb-1000
if it hits their outlet section scratch and dent or something

For $300, I'd say this Klipsch is good. If you are willing to stretch more, go SVS (and I'd say any SVS) or monolith Smilie

Truth right here! I love Klipsch speakers, but subs don't seem as a top-tier compared to SVS, night and day difference. I just bought a SVS PB2000 pro, after having had a Klipsch r120sw that left me feeling underwhelmed and only sounding really good at around 36hz. The SVS sounds good at almost all frequencies

Not fair to compare the 2, but even a PB1000 which also isn't fair to compare.. SVS just isn't fair to compare to Klipsch

dont even bother with the Klipsch sub, just go for the PB/SB1000.
better yet, buy both and test them, and let me know how right I am Wink

Also I swear I'm not an SVS fanboy, but if you buy direct from SVS, you get the bill of rights, so if the price drops in 60days you get auto refund + 45 day in home test and returns, + so much more

Was about to pull the trigger, AVSforum doesn't recommend Klipsch at all.
I have a Klipsch SW-450 that I've had for about 5 years. Never had a bit of problem with it, and it does the job I want it to do... You can't listen to opinions about sound. Reliability - yes...

If you're on the fence...buy it...try it...don't like it...return it.

I don't recommend them for subs either. I would look at svs if you want quality. The klipsch subs cant produce that low end under 30hz very well either

This is a good a you'll get for $300. There are no svs subs for $300. A better svs sub will be $200 more than this $300 sub. Lol.
