Agreed. I own the base game with the season pass and there is some arbitrary 2nd edition for no reason other than to sell another edition and upcharge existing customers.

Not sure if you saw the news, but 505 games accidentally upgraded the deluxe owners to the Ultimate Edition. They then realized their mistake and reversed it back. It shows that they very well can upgrade previous owners, but are choosing not to.

Exactly, this particular instance is on the PS4 I believe. I own the PC version on epic games and the Xbox one disc version. I've given them enough money I think.

What do you mean upcharge existing customers? The ultimate edition is literally the base game and season pass, but packaged together. No extra content or anything. In your case, there's no 'upcharge', unless you just like the idea of having this specific edition in your library.

Aka I bought the game twice but can't play it on new consoles. Buy a new graphics card? Well, you better rebuy your steam library...

Wait, what? The ultimate edition is no different than the deluxe edition, and you actually get less versus the preorder bonuses that potentially came with the deluxe version.
Are you actually playing the game on Steam/PC AND a console, and that desperate to play it on yet another console? And if you have it on Steam, why would you need to buy it again after changing out your graphics card? Even if you scrapped your old computer and got a new one entirely, you'd just login to Steam and download the games you own all over again.
Sorry, I'm not trying to start anything, I just don't understand your complaints. As far as it goes, you buy games full price if you have the disposable funds to do so and want to play it sooner than later(or want to support a smaller developer). You are paying a premium to play it when you want. If you don't have the money to spare and/or aren't invested enough to buy it new at retail price, then you know that it'll go on sale eventually and have the option to save money and wait.

I get what you're saying. I got it on sale for Xbox at $25 the month it came out, beat it on Xbox but then got the deluxe version of PC a few months ago on an Epic sale. Bought it on PC because the DLC was delayed for the Xbox version and I wanted to play through it again with better graphics/performance. I also like to collect games.
But for console gamers who would like to play it with better framerates, there is an upcharge and you have to buy the whole game again separately.
As a PS4 base game buyer, I'm not going to buy anything from 505 until their ultimate editions go on sale for $5-$10. The PS5 upgrade bs is outrageous.
