There's nothing effortless, apparently or otherwise, with this "deal". It's just too complicated in my opinion. If you have to jump through so many hoops to, hopefully, use it goes against the spirit of a slick deal. It very likely violates Microsoft's TOS. Any "slick deal" that could potentially result in you losing your account isn't a deal, it's an exploit and should be approached as such with caution.
It's less about "don't like it, don't do it" and more about how this is a deal (it's certainly not slick — see above definition) for a very small subset of people who use this site. I took advantage of this deal the last time it went down to $25 and even I had trouble getting it to work and I'm a computer engineer.
This "deal" or exploit should maybe be labeled. The "so many hoops" is using a VPN so M$ thinks you are from Brazil since the code is region locked. That's one hoop by my count and not at all complicated. You don't even need a computer, this is easily done with one's phone (everybody has one) The author even recommends Bear tunnel software to simplify using a VPN. I agree this may not be for everyone but they really couldn't have made this simpler to understand. A child could easily do this.

If anything, deals (or "deals") like this are getting to be the last hurrah for cheap 12 month Gold codes and then converting them to Ultimate.
You must be new here (or just incredibly lazy), this is hardly lifting a finger of effort compared to many Slickdeals of the past that required you to jump through tons of hoops. I guess you forgot about things such as mail in rebates. Rookie.
I hear it's coming in December for Christmas.
I don't really care, I'm stacked until 2023, anyone who missed that deal can jump on another but sooner rather than later 12 and 24 month Gold codes are going the way of the dodo, like it or not.
Should I wait until 10/01/2020 to add the 3rd year and THEN convert for the $1 ultimate game pass? Or should I pull the trigger now and get my 2 years? What are the chances they get rid of the $1 conversion upgrade before then? It's been around for quite a while, hasn't it?
