If you want to use the homebase, you have to get the wireless version. That version can be wired as well though, if you want. Really, it comes down to where you want the video stored.

Wireless = Home base
Wired = local

What is the best deal for the battery powered model? It needs a hub right?

The storage on this doorbell is on board,so you don't need a hub.

But, you also don't have the option of using the hub. So, some pros and cons, depending on what you're doing.

It was $99 as well without a hub.

So for me as a non power user who will eventually use this doorbell (I need the battery powered option) + a couple cameras.. I want the hub right?

I don't think it matters. It's only two screws

Depends. Do you want the pre-record feature? This allows you to record motion even before the person rings the doorbell. This doorbell has it...the wireless/battery version that stores video in the hub doesn't.

I have to have a battery (it's a super old rental house with no doorbell).. so it makes the decision for me
