It's 4 years since receiving the sign up bonus.
You have to wait 4 years since opening the first one before you can get another.
The application date or the card open date doesn't matter. What matters is the date that you received the sign-up bonus. That date is probably the closing date of the statement in which it was awarded to you.

For example, if you met the minimum spend for the sign up bonus in the first month the card was opened, the statement closing date was probably October or November 2016. If you met the minimum spend in the 3rd month that the card was opened, then the bonus may have been awarded in January or even February - again, depends on the statement closing date. You can check your first few statements in that account to know for sure.

>so i got this offer for my wife. once we get the 80K points, it looks like I can transfer them to my Chase Sapphire Reserve and they'll be worth $1200 in travel? is that right? I can do that?

how does this increase to $1200 work? Thanks.
Combine your wife's points with yours. If you have a Reserve card and points are moved to it, the points are automatically 50% more in value for redemption. So 80K points is now magically worth $1,200. Pooling points and using it for redemption on the Reserve card is a great advantage. So, you could tell your wife to apply for the card, transfer the 80K to you, but then be kind enough to give her $1,200 or buy her something of that value.

If I am an existing authorized user for a Chase Sapphire Preferred, can I still get the sign up bonus if I apply for the same card?

Bonvoy points compared to Chase Ultimate Reward points is like comparing dollars to pesos. You get the point?
A bit of exaggeration but great analogy and to the point.

From what I have read, Yes. this is because an "Authorized user" is unconnected to the primary user for points/bonus etc. Also points earned from the spending of an authorized user, go to the main subscriber not the AU. Heck, many credit cards don't even demarcate the spending between a main user and AU.

Bottonline. Apply on your own and walk away with a cool 80K points.

called Chase to see if they can check if I qualify (unsure if my Chase Sapphire is past 48 months). Rep said they themselves cannot check, but suggested I go through application, and system will check if I qualify, and if I don't, application will be stopped, no hard credit pull. What do you guys think?

I've been trying to do the same and they can't help but they didn't say anything about application would be stopped if not eligible. Sounds more like if you don't qualify you'll get a card anyway and be sol on the bonus. I logged into my chase account but can't seem to see any old/closed accounts so how in the world can we really check eligibility?

1. If Chase wants to reject a person's application outright (e.g., low credit score), do they indicate a rejection instantaneously, on the screen, after you click the apply button? Or, is it by mail?

2. After applying message received was, "Thank you for your request. We need to review your request a little longer. We will let you know of our decision as soon as possible. Thank you for choosing the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card."
When saving this as a pdf for future reference, the pdf program automatically named the page saved/file as "Decision Pending - Receive by Mail". Obviously the pdf program didn't make this up on their own. It must on Chase's web code language.
a) So, the question is whether "Decision Pending - Receive by Mail" is an indication of a rejection.
b) How likely is the application to be approved if the applicant never had a credit card before and is currently only an authorized user on another person's credit card?

I'm lower income. I can't spend 4k without going on a shopping spree that I'll later regret. I know people will chastise me for asking this: but is it possible to scam the offer? Meaning, can I buy a couple of TVs at Costco and return them after receiving the points in 3 months? Or would they take them back?
It will work, and they'll probably give you the points as soon as you hit the mark (you don't need to wait the 3 months) but generally speaking this is a bad idea. First of all, if you're lower income, you probably can't qualify for the card without lying about your income, which is the first mistake. I've heard of people qualifying for this card with as little as $30k, but it's no guarantee until you get closer to $50k. You also need pretty good credit. Which isn't impossible for lower incomes, but is typically difficult if you haven't utilized credit at a pretty decent level, which is harder if you just don't spend much. If you have a long credit history maybe you can, but that's a whole lot of ducks in a row to line up.

Secondly, what is your goal here? Just to get the 80k and then run? I mean, I guess you can do that, but this card really isn't designed for someone that doesn't plan to use it's perks. And the trap a lot of people fall into is that they get one of these 'premium' cards and start to use them the way everyone says is the optimal way to use them, but they forget that the only way that works is if you fit the category of whom the card is designed for. Which is not 'low-income, doesn't spend much' folks. It's often a recipe for disaster.

Not always but you can call. I called when I had applied for the Reserve several years ago and the flag that the application threw wasn't because of a rejection per se, it was somehow because my limits on my other Chase cards were too high. They suggested I lower the limits a bit and then the application was clear to go. I found the whole situation odd, as my credit score was over 800 and I had more than enough income, but the algorithm does what it does.

I just got this card 1 month back and still haven't spent the 4k to get the bonus. Called in yesterday to see if they can do something about it. They won't be able to offer the 80k points bonus.

a. Not necessarily. Especially together with the CFF introduction, people have been reporting Chase taking their sweet time approving cards this week.

b. Chase doesn't like being a person's 1st credit card, particularly for the more premium cards. Being an AF doesn't hurt, but may not be enough to satisfy Chase in that way.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I'm a long time Chase customer. And have two credit cards with them already. No missed payments. My FICO is 780-something. I'm low income because I quit my day job and just do part-time stuff here and there, like ride-share. My expenses are less than 800/month. I mostly use my Freedom Unlimited to get a few bucks back at the end of the year (helps me pay my car registration). Long story short, I'm already pre-qualified for the Sapphire (it says so in my Chase Ultimate Rewards page). So I could do this. And I wouldn't mind being blackballed from Chase for 4 years. But would they come after me by sending it to collections? Honestly, $800 for someone like me is worth it at this moment in my life (I'm going back to grad school next year).

Should I or should I not do it? That is the question.

I was able to look back through my old statements and found the month that my original CSP bonus posted. I feel more confident applying again since it's been over 48 months since the rewards posted.

Wife got denied sending a secure message on her CSP she just opened last month. We haven't even reached the 4k and got the 60k points yet.
