I had two hero 7 blacks go "bad" on me and was engaged in a 1.5 year fight with them over replacements on and off, only to find out that two out of three Samsung memory cards I bought off of Amazon as FP slick deals were fakes, and actually what caused my cameras to freeze, crash, fail to give me clear files at random. I felt like an idiot. I was so sure it was GoPro's fault.

Amazon gave me refunds for the cards even tho one was over a year old and I threw them in the trash.

Next memory cards I buy will be directly from Best Buy via price matching to Amazon.

That seems to be the best/safest solution.
Just adding two comments.

First, if you are already a gopro subscriber, they give you an additional discount on the camera. I am not, so I couldn't see what the discount actually was.

When you check out, they break out the subscription cost (49.99) separately from the bundle cost and ask you to acknowledge it. At first, I was confused and thought they were adding this to the total cost, but when I checked out, it wasn't added. I did have to pay tax, and 2-day shipping was free.
Glad they brought back the replaceable lens cover. That's the only thing i don't like about the Hero 8.

Does GoPro always charge a ridiculous amount of sales tax? It seems like they are charging the sales tax on the pre-discount price, which is 449.99 (camera) + 49.99 (subscription).

EDIT: I guess the answer is yes, based on a search in the forum. https://community.gopro.com/t5/fo...=sales+tax

Good deal but the sales tax issue is a major turn-off and deal breaker. It just seems greedy to me, since they technically can send just the sales tax on the discounted price to local government and keep the difference.
Illegal, not just greedy.

Who can explain text from GoPro below:
If GoPro subscription is purchased as part of a bundled camera promotion, customer may cancel the subscription portion of the bundle post purchase and acknowledges they will be charged the full retail price of the camera.

is it mean that you cannot cancel your subscription during the first year and you gonna be automatically changed for 2nd year? and only after that you can cancel?

I also want to know the same. How soon we can cancel without paying full price.

I bought a Hero8 a while back and the 'estimated' sales tax on their site was waaaaaay off. When it shipped and actually charged the tax was correct for me.

Ahhhhhh, my Hero 8 buddle from Costco just passed the 90 days return policy and I didn't even have chance to really use the 8, now I want the 9.....Anyone one has successful experience returning electronics over 90 days, e.g. 91 days?

I bough 2 evos also but directly from Samsung to avoid the fakes. I too had the same issues. One memory got wiped clean randomly (128gb). The other memory card got an error but was okay. They had me update the firmware. So far I haven't had issues, but I've barely used it since updating.

I have the hero7

Just saying, I'm glad you figured out your issue (and got a refund) but for me it was definitely the go pro since I have authentic evos

At $20 each for the batteries ($14 with this discount), I'm ok with buying OEM rather than risking it on cheaper alternatives.

That is, if you are spending $50 and getting free shipping. Otherwise $10 shipping kills the deal.

Oh, here's details on accessory discounts:
https://community.gopro.com/t5/en...a-p/436397

This says
  • 30% off batteries + chargers (though it doesn't list the HERO9 variants)
  • 50% off mounts including The Handler, Magnetic Swivel Clip, etc.
  • 30% off some other mounts
  • 30% off mods
  • 30% or 50% off bags and cases
  • 30% or 50% off other accessories

"Limited to a maximum of 10 items per subscription anniversary year."

If the The Handler and Magnetic Swivel Clip are 50% off, then it definitely doesn't make sense to buy the bundle.

Might be a noob question here, but does the GOPRO PLUS-subscription discount on accessories apply to subsequent orders, after you're subscription is officially live? or can I purchase the H9 *non-bundle and then add on the additional accessories in the same order and get the discounted price on my selected accessories?

Damn. So those cards that failed my test could have indeed been legit but just bad cards from Samsung themselves and not fakes... Ugh.

GoPro Hero 10 needs to have dual memory card slots and write to two at the same time for reduancy me thinks.
