It was very easy to see an option for those that don't have a .EDU address; it's clearly stated right on the site in the post's link: "No .edu email? No problem.
Click here to learn how you can still qualify. Offer terms apply." That link takes you to an option that uses the promo code "non_edu_promocode", which worked fine for me. Perhaps "Fundamentals of Reading Web Pages" should be a mandatory course.

Just a note that I had to add exceptions to my ad- and tracking-blockers to get through the "onboarding" process and to go through the cancellation ordeal.

The site is clearly designed to be misleading in a lot of ways (four steps to cancel, each of which makes you think you're making a terrible, irreversible mistake). As many others have stated (thanks!), you can "cancel", and you'll still receive your free year. I'd recommend that everyone do this immediately. They're clearly planning to make a lot of money off students who forget and will be charged $180 in a year.

I canceled right after signing up will continue to have access for one year.

Also, this is from their TOS: "You may cancel a Recurring Subscription at any time, but if you cancel your subscription before the end of the current subscription period, we will not refund any subscription fees already paid to us. Following any cancellation, however, you will continue to have access to the service through the end of your current subscription period.

Right after you sign up, you can cancel the subscription at https://www.masterclass.com/account/edit which will prevent the auto renewal, but still allow you to keep the service for a year.
How do you cancel? When I go to settings and my account, I can only change my email address and password and add a payment method.

Worked fine on my end. Got verification email after about 5-10 minutes. Also if you have Bank of America cash rewards card you can get $15 cashback when making Masterclass purchase.
Same here. Got verification email after about 5-10 minutes. My Chase amazon prime card also offers $15 cashback when making Masterclass purchase.

There's a tiny cancel button on the page. I think it's on the bottom left.

You have to go through several screens before you finally cancel. They also make it sound as if you'll lose access to everything if you cancel, but you'll still have the rest of your year left.

Ahhh... I found it. They really try to hide the cancelation button, don't they. Thank you very much.

Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders have an available offer for $15 cash back when using the card. Be sure to login to your account, add the offer and checkout using your Reserve card. The offer disclaimer says credit will be issued in 14 days. I'm guessing you'll only get $1 back but that makes this offer free! 🔥

Thanks OP. Always been curious about this and now finally had a reason to sign up. And thanks to everyone who confirmed and gave details on how to do the quick cancellation. Unfortunately couldn't figure out how to do potential Chase cash back stack. I logged into my chase freedom card and explored the rewards store but didn't see anything for Masterclass

I accidentally did the same thing, I emailed them and said that I had verified the edu email and the promo code did not apply, within a few hours they emailed me back saying they had applied a $179 credit to my card (only charged $1 after the $179 credit).
I did the same. They said receipt shows $1 but card got charged $180, they can't help unless receipt showed $180? Wtf
