Just a note that I had to add exceptions to my ad- and tracking-blockers to get through the "onboarding" process and to go through the cancellation ordeal.
The site is clearly designed to be misleading in a lot of ways (four steps to cancel, each of which makes you think you're making a terrible, irreversible mistake). As many others have stated (thanks!), you can "cancel", and you'll still receive your free year. I'd recommend that everyone do this immediately. They're clearly planning to make a lot of money off students who forget and will be charged $180 in a year.
Also, this is from their TOS: "You may cancel a Recurring Subscription at any time, but if you cancel your subscription before the end of the current subscription period, we will not refund any subscription fees already paid to us. Following any cancellation, however, you will continue to have access to the service through the end of your current subscription period.

Edit: apparently they double charged
One week later, I wanted to give this a shot with the support team to see if they can help post the transaction through of $1. The support team didn't respond two weeks into this (had to follow up with them one week in), after which they apologized for the delay and to make up for all this, gave me 1 year membership for free as a gift!
Lesson learned : Shots you miss, are the ones you didn't take!

A month ago.. Either way, I'm thankful they refunded me after I logged a ticket.
Same happened to me, they had a process for automatic refund if the charge was less than 30 days ago.
Good thing I was able to log in, I don't have access to that edu account to reset the password.
