People will often say "I can get xx lbs of Costco/Sams for $yy" and it's always the same, those are perfectly good quality everyday coffees. The point is that special-ordering something like this gives you a chance to get single-origin coffees you may want to experience if you seek that kind of thing. Usually with some of the Peets special products they are not even roasted yet; the web site will list the upcoming roasting dates and if you order, it will be shipped by 2-day service immediately after it roasts. Not the same as buying a 3 lb sack of "fairly OK coffee from name brand that has been on a pallet on the top warehouse shelf for a few months"
You can get whole bean at the store for similar price but it's nowhere near as fresh as when you get their subscription.

I got a confirmation email showing 40% off the total but on my PayPal charge they only applied a $2.00 discount.
I had to call customer service (long hold time with classical string music) and provide the discount code - they promised to refund the difference.

I got charged $34 instead of the $20 on my order confirmation! What gives!
