Thanks for the reminder, and that's generally the case with all gift cards. Sometimes I will buy a big ticket item, using these gift cards and return it asap, to get a legit gift card to use with funds that don't expire or get "stolen"
It's not a good deal unless you use it right away. Bought several over the course of a year and was going to save them for a big project. Well, someone stole the money off the cards.
Buyer beware. Unless you use a well backed credit card, you're manure outta luck when it comes to recovering that theft.

When you return GC purchased goods, you will get a store credit card that you can not use online, therefore you are stuck with a store credit that can only be used in physical stores.

This is very true with Paypal sold gift cards. After a year or so, the paypal gift card link will expire and you can not access the GC you bought.
You must access the real GC and save it to a PDF right away.
Got burned many times by Paypal.

Except that if you order online using gift cards and then cancel it, you will get a new gift card mailed to you.
Yeah, beware with these lowes gift cards. I ordered pretty expensive specialty item with a bunch of saved up gift cards Online for in-store pick up... we it came in damaged and they could only refund me an in store credit.... that of course i could not use to reorder the item online... terrible gift card system.
Yep, the extra 5% savings (assuming you normally can get 5% from cc) isn't worth the risk of money tied up in a gift card. However with the lockdown, business is booming at HD and Lowes, so this is good if you have to buy something in the next month or two. Heck, I don't even get those Lowe's coupon mail offers any more like I used to.
