No 3/8 drive deep sockets. 1/4 drive sockets only go up to 3/8". I was looking at this to keep under the seat in my truck, but the limited socket sizes aren't suitable for even a roadside alternator repair or parking lot battery replacement.

I am looking for a socket set with just metric shallow and deep sockets. Why nobody makes them? I intend to keep it in the car. All those SAE sizes are simply useless. If HD comes up with such a set, it will be a hit.

Just ordered one set with free ship to home. This same set at the same price was frontpage about a month ago.

Picked up one at this price the previous deal. Good little vehicle tool set. Had to use it just a few weeks ago on a short trip.

Well, you are right. You can get it in smaller pieces and make your own "kit," but by the time you get to larger sets you always always get a mix of "english" and Metric. (Ironically most English stuff is metric now...)

The recent DeWalt sets which come up here usually for $20-30 a box have things like Deep Sockets and you choose if you want Metric. But the combo sets (which you need to get their 3/8" ratchet, for example) still force you to get a mix of Metric and whatever. (don't know what to call it now, English, SAE, non-Metric, obsolete?). Actually for a car/truck kit, what I recommend is assembling your own "kit," putting together pieces you might collect. For example none of these boxed sets ever include things like pliers, vice-grips, a utility knife, yet all those things are probably part of a good vehicle kit. Also, especially in a truck, you will need some larger sizes. So usually I have assembled my own combo -- that way you don't take a lot of extra useless (and heavy) stuff with you.

I'm just getting into tools. Is this good enough for an oil change, maybe basic maintenance on my car? Does this come with common sizes. Thank you

Yep, good starter set for basic maintenance, I'd suggest getting better screwdrivers though, this one with the swappable bits is okay in a pinch but I wouldn't want it to be my only screwdriver.

Generally speaking what are the most common sizes for tools that are used for regular car maintenance?

Depends on your car but 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm I'd say are usually most common
