Was gonna buy 3 USB drives for $265, but the free 3700x seals the deal
Wrong. AMD backtracked on that within a week or two after all the backlash. Source: https://www.anandtech.com/show/15...therboards
Anything X570 or B550 should work for the Gen on Oct 8th. The gen after will be a new socket

They are announcing on Oct 8th. Do you know if they usually sell on the day of announcement?

The real question I have is whether or not they're are going to be motherboards that support the new generation of AMD processors WITHOUT having to do some sort of required old gen cpu/bios update. Maybe you AMD lovers can tell me?

I think they said the 400 MB's will work with this generation as well.

Ah yes. They said they'd have "beta firmware" for some older chipsets to allow them to work--presumably firmware that will remove support for older chips (since memory space was the original problem, IIRC). If you have a 400 motherboard, I guess it's worth a try, but I don't think I'd buy one now anticipating it will work well. X570 and B550 will work.

The next series will, IIRC, have a new socket (AM5?)

Had to do with some motherboard makers cheaping out on rom space for bios iterations. You'll be able to update many 400 boards to accommodate the new chips now but you will lose some of the backwards compatibility with previous processors, which should honestly be okay for the majority of users.
