Mine shows $499, I just ordered for that. Might have to add to cart. And Refurb has been in the title.

What is so special about these? $1,000 for a pair of binoculars seems a tad on the expensive side.

$1000 is not expensive for good binoculars - can easily pay up to $3000 for Swarovski and Leicas. If you look through a pair you can see the difference easily (brighter, more detail, more vibrant, better contrast, less chromatic distortion, etc).

Whether it is worth the $ depends on what you plan to do with them.

Thank you. I have the Monarch 5, and those are good binoculars. Saw they had it for $190 so grabbed another pair for a relative.

Differences in optics become more apparent when there is low light levels. Larger objective lenses increase in price. The prism type/quality also affects price. It's like any other item that involves optics. Telescopes, rifle scopes, microscope. You get what you pay for. For portability, I have a roofprism nikon. When weight is less of an object, I bring my much heavier/waterproof 'autofocus' porro-prism steiner binocs which I think are fantastic values for what you get (germany made).

Optics are pretty amazing on high end glass. Better night vision and details. You might look at a bird and see all sorts of details as opposed to seeing jut a large Blury blob
