The 2 gen old 8750h is only 10ish percent slow than the 10750h. It's still 6 cores and the pairing of an rtx 2080 is this laptops appeal. Cheapest 2080 laptop I've seen to date
Looks like a good price to me, but that processor is about 3 years old. AMD processors are the bee's knees right now and nvidia's new beast mobile cards based on the 3000 series are guesstimated to be coming in Q1 2021.
That will always be the case with computers though... new stuff always just around the corner.
Hard to beat the 2080 in mobile... even though it's a Max Q.
The 2080 Max-Q actually trades blows with the 2070 Mobile, which can be found in some laptop sales at about $1300. Mobile and Max-Q are different product lines. 3080 was recently released, but good luck getting one at msrp for the next couple months. Also we likely won't see an 30series laptops for at least a year. And when we do expect them to cost a hefty premium.

Actually the 8th. 9th and 10th gen intel are in the same ballpark in terms of performance. Minor improvements at best. This is good deal considering it is a thin and light laptop.
This kills the deal for me. Why would you only want 16GB of RAM in a laptop like this... more like 64GB. Would be a waste to pair the 8GB soldered on ram with a another 32GB stick in the slot.
Your better waiting for Nvidia new gpu
And Intel's new cpu
Laptop ampere GPUs will probably not even show up till at least the middle of next year and that is if covid19 doesn't continue to delay global logistics.
If you want a gaming laptop with a 2080 card this isn't a bad deal but, I noticed this Zephyrus does not have thunderbolt. So EGPU potential is out of the question.
I just grabbed one. Thanks for posting, quite the upgrade from my gateway P-7811fx. Been looking at used 1070 laptops on ebay, but they were going pretty high.

Also would I save on subscriptions going the PC route?

I'd rather get the new 240hz Zephyrus M15 for about the same price. Even though it is a 2070 max q, the screen is better.

There are some cosmetic differences and some keyboard changes.
