Keepa says except for a slight dip, it's been $24.49 since July 1st. That's more than two bucks off.

KNIPEX Tools 87 01 250 10-Inch Cobra Pliers [amazon.com] - $32.99 is 60% more. These 7" alligators are a better value if you don't need the extra size.

These are tiny. Great pliers for mainly for small stuff or areas you need tight access.

The 12" are really the great tool here. The 12" don't sound much larger than the 10" but the leverage difference is huge. Don't settle for the 10".

Alligator vs Cobra: Everyone says Cobra and they make too big of a deal out of the differences. The Alligators have less finite of an adjustment but that does not matter with pliers. The Alligators can be much more quickly adjusted. Alligators are the superior options but everyone disagrees with me. (They are wrong and have not used these professionally on plumbing.)

If it came to fitting one in a limited space toolbelt, I'd go with these 7". After that, I'd get the 12", for they can fill the void above the 7 that the 10 can't. But that's for a typical homeowner guy. I have a ton of 30yr old craftsman, when they were premium, but can't help but ogle these. My dad worked for SK, so I have too many tools I have yet to be used. As another said, I'd take alligator over cobras.

Even though I have these for work, I agree that the cobras are better.

Just because you prefer them does not mean you are right and others are wrong. It means you both have opinions and preferences. I have used both professionally and prefer the cobras. Its okay for people to have different opinions.

Joe is dead-on - the 12's are the most versatile.

I was in a hurry when I ordered off the tool truck, and 22 didn't sound that big... my next order was for a set of 16's.

I use the 22's more often than o thought I would (at work); a set of 12's would be nice for home.

I got my 3 set of gator pliers from Home Depot years ago. I live in Florida, the air is very salty, they sit in a garage. I flip homes, I go through lots of plumbing projects including incredibly corroded piping yet somehow, magically I am able to do everything with run-of-the-mill non-professional grade pliers withouy any issues from them after all of these years.

Go figure.

Nobody said you need these. But IMO getting a nicer set of tools is worth it if you are not tight on cash. Somewhat easier you use, somewhat better grip , somewhat more convenient handles. Like all higher end goods you get 10-20% better functionality for 50% higher price. To some it is worth it, to others not. Obviously people were able to do plumbing when they did not have fancy tools.
