The boxes in the warehouse have an additional packet of warranty information attached to the boxes. (At least they do here locally.)
So even though the box is printed with a 3-year warranty on it, the additional information explains the extension of the 3 year warranty to 5 years.
(And yes, if you use the Costco Visa credit card, that tacks on an additional 2 years, making it 7 years total.)
Hope this helps clarify things a bit...

We are going to have to return\rebuy our TVs to get the extra warranty years (someone earlier in the thread called Costco and they said they cannot adjust for the warranty special; only the $400 price difference)
Two scenarios:
1 – Sony > Costco Distribution Center > Costco Warehouse > Your home
2 - Sony > Costco Distribution Center > Your home
If it's the second case, you might be safer getting the TV that way rather than at the warehouse where more hands touching it (including you and your buddy trying to shove the big 65 inch TV onto the back of the truck/SUV).
Got the Costco reminder email earlier today on the new sales book starting tomorrow and for the Sony TV sale, the email said, "May be available online"? Huh? What does that mean? Forget it, not taking the chance of it selling out online.
By ordering today, I'm assured of getting one at the sales price (after price adjustment) and at the minimum a 3 years warranty. If by tomorrow morning, they still have plenty in stock online, I will order a second one and cancel the first one as to get the extra 2 years warranty promo. Although I see from another post that re-order may not be necessary if the warranty does indeed cover purchases from 9/25 onward.
I ordered it for a late October delivery date so that way if I need to cancel, there's plenty of time to cancel before the TV is shipped.
There's also an added benefit to having a later delivery date. In case you must return the unit for whatever reason, the timing of the order could be important since Costco has a 90-day return policy on TV from the date of delivery, not the date of order. Thus a 90-day window from September 30 is December 29, which could be super long lines from all the post-Christmas return people. If you order it for a later delivery date, then the 90-day window can be pushed out to January return when it's less crowded.

FWIW I can still add it to my cart so I doubt they are sold out this soon.

I'm going to chat with another rep tomorrow because my box says 3 years right on it...I'm looking at it as I type this message lol. It got delivered just yesterday and I've been holding onto it in case i need to return/rebuy.
