Waiting for a tri-band AX wifi router at black Friday. The current price of a good quality AX router is crazy.

Not if you go through a site that ships direct from China like one that starts with "ali..." I've seen them around 50% less. In the end they all come from China anyway.

Bought this router but returned it. Performance at any distance outside the router's room was terrible and it did a horrible job sending signals to different floors.

Might be because the antennas are small and cannot be reoriented.

Bought this router and it's performing well for us. 2.4ghz range is good and the 5ghz channels both are working well. We noticed a significant improvement in gaming over our T-Mobile router (asus ac68 I believe). Lag is down significantly in several games especially with a lot of users blasting the router (5 kids and 2 adult household). We added the T-Mobile router as a wireless access point and overall we are very happy with our purchase.

That's exactly the existing router and use-case I had planned. Thanks for the specific feedback!

Was hoping I could use the ac68 as an AP with same SSID and it would just work despite not being same-brand or a mesh.

The AC68 is rock solid. How is the stability of this one?

The only issue would be if your devices are roaming often between the two APs. I've found devices like laptops and phones usually stick on the weaker Wifi until you manually force a reconnect or your signal drops so low that it's forced to reconnect to a different AP.

Basically, it's not seamless like a mesh would be.

Any other comments on actual use experience with this?
I have archer c9 which has been solid for last 4 years but this looks like an upgrade both for range and speed

Same! I had an Archer C9 for 6 years, that just stopped working. I'm looking for a new router. I'm looking into eero Pro 6, TP link AX20, or this one (TP link AC4000?) Can someone please provide some helpful input on which I should get?
