There are still small or big limitations to that depends on your purpose.
I have that on Fire HD 8 from the recent QVC deal and have the toolbox installed. It becomes more like stock Android but not everything works. I found at least.
1. App notification from Google App Store might not work. Facebook messaging works, Skype and Hubitat not. So, you will not receive message or call notifications. It seems to be known issue after posting at xda. If there is an Amazon Store version of the same app, you'd better go with that. So, don't uninstall Amazon Store.
2. Google account setting will not bring up. You can add google account from toolbox but you can't change any setting like what to sync to the tablet like email and contact, they will be always synced.
3. Wechat will not run and it will suspend your account when you go back to other devices saying you used a hacked device. Beware of that if you have people need to communicate using wechat.
If you do purchase one, which I highly recommend, sideload google play (5 min - can be found on youtube) or use amazon fire toolbox (15 min - can be found on xda) to turn it into essentially a stock android tablet.
My family has owned nearly every type of Fire tablet the past five years and the current gen 10 is a good one. Keep in mind its a budget tablet, so don't expect ipad pro specs/performance; although for $100, these are a steal especially when compared to the other ridiculously bad budget android tablets floating out there.

Family Tablet (mostly my kid's) is the Fire hd10
Wife Hauwei Mediapad M3
Mine Hauwei Mediapad M5
and my cracked screen tablet (p.s. now we only buy the foam cases with the handle)
Shield K1
Samsung Tab2
Lenovo Tab 4
All my tablet are 8" except the Fire HD10.
And I praise this tablet because the price to specs is INCREADABLE, the value (which is what I am all about) is INSANE...
But this tablet is not perfect and you still need patience. Scrolling a webpage sometimes you need to wait 2 seconds for it to load up. But overall I am super happy with my tablet.
1. Xda Amazon Tool Box
2. try to run one app at a time
3. use Killapps (download from play store) every time you turn it on and use Bluetooth.
You do these three things you will have a smile for years... IMHO.

I don't see this being cheaper on Prime Day. The value is already extreme.
