And to Freddie Mercury's ancestors Big Grin who got a safe place in Gujarat when they needed to escape the Islamic persecution in their country. I only recently learnt that he went to school in Maharashtra.

So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

The Dalai Lama's first job was cooking at a pizzeria. His specialty was making people one with everything.

A lot of Persian ( pre Islamic ) Aristocracy moved to india, and also freely practiced their religion. Also lot of smaller groups moved to India , and adopted umbrellas of Hinduism by choice.... .

Yep, and the Parsis have become a very wealth and influential community, especially in Bombay where I'm from.

Nothing in particular but you can start with Freddie Mercury's Wikipedia page to get an idea of his background and start from there.

In short, when Islam was (violently) spreading in Iran/Persia many Zoroastrians took refuge in India to escape the death and violence.

This community is called 'Parsi' in India. They are probably the smallest minority of the many in India but they are over represented when it comes to being top of their field in science, medicine, business etc.

Freddie Mercury is from a Parsi family, his real name is Farookh Balsara. his last name comes from Bulsar, which is a place in Western Indian state of Gujarat where the Parsis first landed. Bulsar is now Valsad and I have been there a few times on business trips.

Most interesting fact I know about them is how they don't bury or cremate their death, they let birds like vultures feed on the body in what they call 'Tower of Silence'. And that they highly prefer marrying within the community so their gene pool is kinda at risk.

Overall a well respected community in India with their share of great contributions to the country.
