Yep, and the Parsis have become a very wealth and influential community, especially in Bombay where I'm from.
Curious about this, any link to read?
Nothing in particular but you can start with Freddie Mercury's Wikipedia page to get an idea of his background and start from there.
In short, when Islam was (violently) spreading in Iran/Persia many Zoroastrians took refuge in India to escape the death and violence.
This community is called 'Parsi' in India. They are probably the smallest minority of the many in India but they are over represented when it comes to being top of their field in science, medicine, business etc.
Freddie Mercury is from a Parsi family, his real name is Farookh Balsara. his last name comes from Bulsar, which is a place in Western Indian state of Gujarat where the Parsis first landed. Bulsar is now Valsad and I have been there a few times on business trips.
Most interesting fact I know about them is how they don't bury or cremate their death, they let birds like vultures feed on the body in what they call 'Tower of Silence'. And that they highly prefer marrying within the community so their gene pool is kinda at risk.
Overall a well respected community in India with their share of great contributions to the country.

Thank you, sounds very interesting. I will read about on Wikipedia as you suggested.
