Is it just me, or can you not close the lid when playing a 33rpm record?

I think you can. There is a cutout at the front edge of the cover (see the top of the picture).

I'm personally looking for some forward thinking Chinese manufacturer to generate a turntable with a blank head mount you can stick a good cartridge in, and a bluetooth chip, for about 100 bucks. Sony and AT now make the only ones so the prices are fixed higher.

I have a theory this has not happened because Chinese wealth only ramped up in the 90s so nobody there has any records, and therefore pump out record players as novelty items. When I was in China in the late 80s all music was on cassettes.

Sorry to be THAT guy, but these cheap plastic turntables are a waste of your money. Here are a couple of pointers:

1. The stylus needle's heavy tracking force will dig DEEP (literally) onto your records, thus permanently ruining them.
2. They have horrible output sound quality from the tiny speakers.
3. They are cheaply made, mostly plastic. Bad vibrations!
3. They do not have consistent speed and your listening experience is ruined.

Spend at least $100, if you're on a tight budget.

Here is a good one for a beginner: Audio-Technica AT-LP60X-RD Fully Automatic Belt-Drive Stereo Turntable, Red, Hi-Fi, 2 Speed, Dust Cover, Anti-Resonance, Die-Cast Aluminum Platter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NFRC...DFbN36FB6P

Records have officially outsold CDs as of this year. Been on the rise for the past 15+ years.

Woe to those that would spend the same amount on a player as they would an album.
