For you and others asking about this promotion specifics, I would strongly recommend checking out the original thread for this offer, the consensus there is clearer.

https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/593558

Essentially, the Netflix credit can be applied to any account, new or existing of any type. The credit accounts for the standard plan for 6 months, totaling $77. It will account for less than 6 months if you have a higher plan (just doing the math). The credit can only be applied once to an account, so there's limited benefit to trying to "game" this deal.

If you have Netflix already or want Netflix, this essentially gets you the new Chromecast for $12, which is a great option. Just get one and enjoy 😁. Hope this helps!

EDIT: Updated with original post link and clarified thr "standard" plan. Thanks!
The fine print on the bottom says: "If you return the device within the allowable return period and have already redeemed the Netflix offer, you will be refunded $49.99 USD (cost of the Chromecast device)."

Is my math wrong? Or does that mean I can essentially get 6 months of Netflix for just $40? (a savings of $37) All I have to do is to activate the free 6-month Netflix and then return the Chromecast device)
I have a 1st and 2nd generation Shield and just got the Chromecast yesterday. As much as I love the Shield, if Kodi runs well on it (FYI I haven't even seen if I could install it on the Chromecast Android TV yet), I don't feel that I will look back.

The game changer for the new Chromecast is the simple, but perfect remote. It is the first non-official universal remote that works my TV (including input button) and soundbar. Even though it's almost identical, it blows away the Roku remote.

BTW even though it's a little more per month, I feel FuboTV is better than YTTV. Trust me, I tried them all and although YTTV was a close second, FuboTV has quite a few more channels (e.g., A&E, History etc.) and their sports channels can't be touched.

Its just $49... u can go with it for this price

My personal opinion is remote quality could hav been much better ... and sometimes the interface is bit laggy ... at least for me.... this device needs power from wall outlet, u cannot just get the power frm usb port
I don't think most people should jump on this deal for the stick, it's laggy in my opinion and the remote leaves a lot to be desired as well.

The Netflix deal, if you're going to return the stick, is excellent. laugh out loud

there are diff google one plans. 100gb/yr gets nada, 200gb/yr gets 3% back in google store, 2TB and up get 10% back

the 2TB plan is 9.99 a month, so if you buy 2-3 you may want to become a google one member first

I had the device since last Sunday from Home Depot.

The remote does stink, mainly because of the placement of the volume buttons. You have to change your hand position on the remote to change the volume in a very unnatural way.

Fortunately I was able to pair my 2019 Shield remote with it. The Assistant button works with said remote, too.
Use "Button Mapper" you can swap it with the youtube/netflix button.

Can you add any apps you want? Was trying to solve my AT&T/HBO Max problem. HBO Max cannot be streamed through Roku and I don't want to cast it from a device to Chromecast. I can only stream it on my computer or cast it at this time.
If this device won't solve the problem, look for a deal on a fire stick, Prime Day is coming up, you can probably get one for anywhere from $15-$25 depending on the model, and can probably trade in an old streaming device for an extra discount (I think it was last year that I traded in an old Roku we didn't use anymore for something like 20% or 25% discount). You can sideload the hbo max app. We mainly use roku, but turn to the fire stick when we want hbo max and it works well.

This feels like a dumb question since I'm relatively competent with this stuff including a smart house packed full of smart devices and automations being run by Home Assistant, but here goes:

What additional benefits does this new Chromecast bring to users that most modern smart TVs and receivers can't already do? Or are these and other similar dongles really just for people who still have dumb TVs? I have a relatively high-end smart TV and receiver both of which are 2019 models and have all the latest tech, inside a house full of Google devices (no Alexa). I have no problem pumping out 4K HDR w/ real 9.2.4 channel Atmos (not a sound bar) and can play from any app or source I need including Plex.

I'm already a Netflix subscriber and would jump all over this, but I just don't see what additional functionality I'm getting.
My vizo tv is about 4 years old now and the interface is garbage. With this chromecast I am able to use my plex again due to the Vizo just stopped working. Also the chromecast acts as a steam link for me to play steam games. I also remapped the buttons on the controller too which is a nice feature. With it being able to sideload apps the sky is the limit to be honest. I think Google may lock down the device with an update because you have so much freedom with it.

your netflix is free,,so apply a 77 credit to something that is free doesn't make it more free.
I pay $5/extra per month on top of the free plan (HDR/4 screens).

Would be nice if this $77 applied to $5 x 15 months, but doesn't seem possible.

Oh well.

I'm curious, does this work well enough over Wifi to play action/fps games?

I too have a Vizio (their flagship P-series) and don't mind the interface, although I don't typically use the interface that often. I usually turn on my TV directly to whatever source/app I want so there's minimal navigating. I also reprogrammed most of the Vizio remote's stock app buttons because I don't use most of them (other than Netflix and Prime Video) to apps I actually use. I love being able to have the TV off and with the push of one remote button it turns on directly to Plex.

This right here is actually a really good reason that I wasn't aware of! I'm no stranger to rooting and sideloading android phones; I'll have to research more but it'd be nice to be basically add whatever I want to the Chromecast. Thanks for this, repped.

Ordered one.
Anybody have thoughts on this vs fire stick 4K?
Already have a fire stick just wondering which is better and if it's worth switching to the chromecast
