Check your inbox for the chase Freedom Card Deal, or login to your Chase Freedom UR account. I've been looking to add to some Ridgid power tools but sales rare.
This is a bad deal if you travel and have a chase sapphire reserve or preferred card. Preferred gives you 1.25% redemption rate so 25% back, reserve gives you 1.50x redemption rate so 50% back vs 10% on gift cards.

100% correct. This is a bad deal. I get all my gift cards at Kroger for 4x fuel points using the reserve card. I always get at least 1000 points each month, so I get $1 off/ gallon for 35 gallons. Then pay for the grocery store purchase using pay yourself back. That's one way to use some of my half million plus points.
You need to stack as many deals as possible to get the max savings.
OP, ridgid tools are on sale via home depot's special buy of the day basically once a week, which ones are on changes from time to time but the sure thing tools everytime are drills/drivers.
Why do you say so? I have sapphire and freedom both and I am confused why this is not good deal for sapphire but good deal for freedom?
Freedom always allows cash withdrawals of points at a 1/$1 ratio. That's the standard cash rebate. Buying this Home Depot gift card at a 10% discount is good (but not so good for the other sale cards). Although Discover is also offering a similar discount right now on Home Depot cards.
As for Sapphire, I don't have one, but it would appear from the earlier posts that Chase is offering a temporary incentive to convert points to cash back at a better ratio that they typically offer on that card. If that's the case others are suggesting getting a cash rebate on a Sapphire card is better than the 10% discount offered on the HD card. They are not doing that with the no-fee Freedom card.
One thing to point out is that HomeDepot has become really obnoxious with returns using gift card purchases. 1. They require ID for return - not sure if true for regular purchases, 2. They give you back store credit and that store credit is tied to your name. So when you use the store credit, you need your ID again. Don't know if they will let your spouse use the card.
So when you return an item, instead of having a method of payment that was free of restrictions, you end up something that has restrictions. They say it is for your protection - which is all crap since I originally had the gift card with no protection and that is what I want back.
