Brand new XM4, only a couple months old. Surprised it's already on sale, but it's well worth the price. I love my XM3 though, so won't be upgrading because of the marginal upgrades, but if you value the multipoint pairing, this is a good price to get it at. Otherwise, wait around for another XM3 deal.

"Sadly, i[the noise cancelling is] not all that effective. It's not that it doesn't do anything; you can hear when it's active, versus when it isn't, and switching it on definitely kills some background noise - especially low droning sounds - but certain sounds like people chatting still seem to worm their way in. We also found that noise leaks out quite noticeably too. So you certainly don't get that 'locked in a noiseless bubble' feel that you can get from others." - https://www.pocket-lint.com/headp...cancelling
Several other reviewers say the noise cancellation sucks.

I bought "like new" xm3 for $167 from amazon. Never regret it . Xm3 is good for listening music👌.
Noise canceling xm3 is superb to me.
I use Cheap $30-$35" BT Taotronic s90 model. Not worry to brake it haha......
Xm4 is basically xm3.
That said, nothing beats bose for comfort. That's where I feel Sony missed the boat. No one on the airplane is going to care about the nuance in the sound reproduction. I know I don't. Certainly not next to a roaring engine.
I really like my XM3 headphones. Best audio quality I've ever had in a pair of headphones. They're also great for calls/chats- my wife steals them to use on Discord every night. The noise-cancelling works really well too, but I don't use it much since I'm mostly at home. Finally, the ear/head cushions are very nice. All as expected for the price.
There is one small problem I didn't know about from reading reviews that I wish someone had told me: the headphones seem to have a pressure type feeling that makes them difficult to wear for long periods. It's not deal-breaking, and it's not the same for everyone from what I gather, but I wish I knew before.
I don't know if the XM4 has fine-tuned that, but if not, might be important to know before buying.

Sony can't make the perfect affordable quality products. To sacrifice comforts or high quality ear cushion/pads, whatever it called for sounds is their brand image

Second this. I have a pair of QC-15s that are still unbelievably comfortable. I mostly wear the XM3s work gave me since the wireless is really nice working around the house. Can get up from a meeting, grab a drink, take a leak, and be on the call the whole time. Noise canceling is better with the XM3s, and they also fold up a bit more compact for air travel. Battery life isn't as good as the AAA in my QCs, but they also charge via USB-C, so I don't need to carry anything extra than my phone charger.

true, but i think the issue is that they didn't leave enough room in ears and cause pressure feeling. this is nothing new, i have maybe 6 Sony headphone since the MDR-V6 days (and a number of their Bluetooth noise cancellation over the course of 30 years). they felt okay for the first hour or two, then you ear starting feeling the pain afterwards. try that for a transpacific flight that last 10+ hours, and i quickly throw them out from my luggage.
i have had XM3 and tried XM4. they may have the best noise cancellation, they may have better frequency response than bose, but all of them is worthless if they are not in my luggage bag. and i truly want to enjoy music, i have better headphones at home.
i guess according to the product page, the intended usage is on the train (which i can see since your train ride is short), on the street (really?), and in the coffee shop (really???)
