Just a PSA for folks who are looking to get new Echo devices via Amazon Prime Day. On top of the (what appear to be) pretty decent deals on Echo devices, you can trade in your old stuff and it stacks. Obviously this is a sample size of 1 so YMMV. But definitely worth a shot if you're in the market.

For Instance:

I purchased an Echo Show 5 and traded-in an old Gen 2 Dot.

EDIT - I've noticed some folks experiencing issues with this. Hopefully the below helps:

1) Find the Echo device you want to purchase
2) On the right side of the screen you should see the trade-in button.
3) Select your device (if it shows up on your account) or in the text box, key in the model number and it will pull it up via the search.
4) Go through the trade in process and just accept whatever they give you (again - this is not where the big savings come in for older echo dots)
5) After you finish the trade in process prompt, go back to the page you were on with the new device you want. Add it to your cart.
6) Go INTO your cart and proceed to checkout (this is the only place you will see the additional 25% off savings and it should apply your gift card for the device you just traded in)

Finally got it to work for echo 8 after 10 trys. This is what I did Don't know if it'll work for you. Used my work laptop which is running on a vpn. Chose to return my echo if not accepted. The message changes at the top that the discount will be applied to check out. Good luck

I tried at least 10 times on my phone using the Amazon app and through Chrome attempting to trade in an original show, original echo, original dots and every time it required them to receive the trade in first. I finally jumped on my work computer and first try it gave me instant credit for my original show . $4.76 total when it was all said and done. So the moral of the story if you aren't able to get the instant discounts, try a different computer on a different network. It may work.

Oh, and I'm on a prime student account if anyone is wondering. I was thinking maybe that had something to do with requiring Amazon to receive the trade in first.

I got the 25% off instantly with an echo trade in. What happens if I remove the trade in or just not send it in? Will they remove the 25% discount? Has anyone tried it?

just did it. for those having issues, there is no "coupon". just add the device to your cart and go to checkout. you will see the discount applied there.

Actually, I thought my echo was a 2nd generation and it is not. Should I send it anyways, cancel the trade in or not send it? My mom is no longer with us, so I can't ask her.

AMazon is still selling echo dot 3rd gen without clock. So it seems they aren't offering trade in for those. It's a bummer.

I am debating if I want to get the Echo Show 10 for ~$92. I can get $30 GC for trading in an Echo Spot. Is the new Echo Show 10 (not on sale yet) that much better. It'll likely go on sale once it's released too, if history is any indicator.
