Let's hope Costco matches and the iPhone 7 or even the 6s are eligible
Yeah, I can see T-mobile scheming now on the terms:
Add 3 lines of Magenta only, requires 36 months of bill credits, trade-in iPhone X or higher and one major organ ...
Hoping for iPhone 12 Mini promos.

I spoke to a rep yesterday with the exact question for my sister's line. It's true. It's the new way to lock you into a contract, without a contract
Typically the Costco deals are the only way to avoid this, as they usually give virtual prepaid cards. But I wouldn't be surprised if they switch over to bill credits soon also. So many of us have gotten amazing deals on new iPhones the past few years.

I was wondering why Tmo didn't go all in with the 12 this time. I think they have something up their sleeve...
Like what?

This is tempting with a 6S that's still active on the T-Mobile network. However, I'm just scared that they're going to mess up the promo and account details, since I'm on a legacy Simple Choice family plan.

Does anyone know if this requires any plan change or not?

You can still upgrade and continue to get the bill credits as long as you pay it off...I am doing that from the OnePlus 6T offer....
you have to be careful, i have some phones on EIP that if you pay off early, the promotion goes away as well.

I'm on Magenta Plus First Responder with my wife, paying $100/month. We've had T-mobile for less than 1 year. To add an extra line, it's $20/month extra. My wife has an iPhone 7.

Looks like trading in the iPhone 7 + adding a new line = $530 off the iPhone 12 Pro ($1000 - $530 = $470 for the cost of the phone). However, I'll have to keep the new line (which we won't use) open for 30 months for bill credit, so an additional $600 ($20 X 30 months) of T-mobile payment.

This would essentially be $470 + $600 = $1070 of out of pocket payment for the phone (not to mention the additional $10 for the new SIM card).

Doesn't seem like it's worthwhile to me, unless I missed something. Let me know if I did!

T Mobile hits you with the overpriced required Magenta plans
So the 55+ plan would not be eligible here? Won't bite then

Do you think Costco will have the iphone 12s on launch day?
If they do it will be in white and black only. That's the hardest part about getting a phone at costco (I love the store by the way) is if you want any color to your phone, too bad.

How can you tell how long you've been with T-Mobile to see if this offer is eligible?
Probably easiest to message T-Mobile in the app to ask if you don't have a record of when you activated service.

EIP bill credit promotions don't go away when you pay the phones off, it moves to the account level and you're eligible for a new promotion. It has been like this for years now.

According to the T-Mobile app rep I chatted with, no plan requirement; I'm on an old plan too so I hope that's accurate.

I didn't even see that, that sucks for most of us who have spare phones laying around.
So it seems that network locked phones would not be accepted?

I have a few tracfone/simple mobile iPhone 6 and 6s iPhones
Based on previous promos, it will still be accepted at the "regular" trade in value - so $215 for a first gen SE is still good, even if you won't get the additional $200 loyalty rebate because the phone is locked to another carrier and/or not being used on your account. I have a 1st gen SE currently being used so I'll trade that in, but I also have another one not being used - I'm thinking $215 is still worth trading it in. $415 is of course much better but $215 is unheard of and will likely be the last time it will have any significant trade in value.

Bill credits aren't a huge deal for me, my fam and I have been with T-Mobile for 20+ years so we likely won't be going anywhere anyway.

Yuck bill credits for 30 months! This is no deal at all. If you do bill credits, most times you can combine bogo and trade in with other carriers, No deal here. Basically how T-mobile came to compete, Uncarrier, No Contract etc now they are doing exactly what the other carriers do!

I wish Telecom was deregulated and international service providers could enter the US telecom market. Off cource then all the 3 US carriers will go bankrupt but all the consumers will save a whole lot of money and govt can save some tax money to not having to bail out or even pay through the nose to some of these carriers!

Fine print: Lines must be active and in good standing when card is issued. Register code within 30 days of purchasing device. Allow 6-8 weeks from fulfilment of offer requirements; must be active and in good standing to receive credits/card. Max 4/account. May not be combinable with some offers or discounts (e.g. Carrier Freedom).

Max 4/account - not bad at all, very fair for the loyalty +$200 offer.

I agree, my Costco only had black with the launch of the 11. if you're not picky, it doesn't matter and you can potentially get a great deal w/o bill credits if they have an offer like that. My Costco also only had base 64GB models so.. that's also a factor.
