If it's a popular model/color/size then you might wait a month to get it from the date after launch.
If I remember correctly, the smallest sizes and the largest sizes usually go first. If you're willing to pay more for the middle one, you'll probably get your phone sooner.
New colors that haven't been offered before also tend to be very popular.
If you don't pre-order, you should probably expect to receive your phone in end of November or early December. If the phone doesn't sell well, then you will get it sooner.
But given how they're doing staggered launches, I suspect that means there will be less quantities available than previous years.

I'm on the 55+ plan and literally just messaged them through my app to ask about this. They said this plan is eligible for the trade in promo (i asked about an iphone 7 though) and eligible for the add a line part of the promo too.
hopefully someone else can confirm they've been told the same in case i got a renegade rep.
