They were talking on instore purchase!! To get people attention on this online availability, I added a new post
Honestly I wouldn't have caught it if it wasn't for this thread. The other was in store only and closest Costco is 2 hrs away to just check if they have in stock.

Because OP made a new post, I was informed of it and was able to buy it online. So yes this is a hot deal and deserving of a separate post, maybe it will get merged but will do disservice for those looking to order online and aren't subscribed to an in store thread.

And also yes this maybe club price. But for a brand new receiver that is listed for $200 off the price for a model number change in all other stores, this is a HOT deal. Also there is no guarantee price will always stay at this or keep stock for that matter. Guarantee that this will be out of stock and won't come back for awhile.

I've seen plenty of Costco "regular" priced items happen this way because they so much cheaper than their equivalent at other stores.
Like anything: buy what you buy and walk away and just enjoy what you have. If you continue to hang around on threads like this, you'll eventually find some random thing you didn't know you NEEDED and suddenly wish you had.

If you just ignore these kinds of threads you'll most likely enjoy your purchase. If not, it's Costco: take it back because there's most likely something wrong with it.

Trust me, in 3-5 years there will be some new hotness (16k? HDMI 4.7? Dolby LaserHoloImmersion2025?) and you'll of course want that because suddenly 9 speakers just aren't enough for the human ear... And since you only spent $400 in 2020, upgrading (for ¥3000) won't be a huge deal.

Ok, check within Avsforums to see if others have experienced that issue with the same TV/avr combo, or try the Sony resolution mentioned above to see if that helps.

I would hold off on buying TSR 700 right now. This receiver has recently been identified to have a significant bug that affects high refresh rate gaming at 4k. See below, this also affects other receivers using the same panasonic chipset. Therefore a lot of 4k/120 8k AVRs right now will experience the same issue.

To all those that have purchased this receiver, we should really let Yamaha know that we should be expecting some sort of fix / recall to get this working again. I'm sure a lot of us bought these receivers for future proofing and using a workaround on this is not a permanent solution.

Received this from Costco just over a week ago and haven't opened it yet. Thinking of returning, since I don't think it gets me much more than the Onkyo TX-NR676 I bought over 2 years ago for ~$250. Guess I was hoping this might handshake better with my LG B7A, Apple TV and LG 4K player, but this yamaha may have it's own unique challenges. Are there any true advantages of this AVR if I'm not a gamer? 8K compatibility and eARC alone don't seem worth it.

I had similar issue, try disconnecting all devices from the back of the receiver. Add 1 at a time amd turn off everything including TV and turn on again; like a hard power reset. I have tried both ways with Roku premier 4k and my 4k player connected directly to avr and through CAAVO and it worked. Good luck.

I ended up ordering a Denon s750 for $320 since I was so frustrated with this Yamaha. Hooked it up tonight and everything works. No audio or video dropouts. Using the exact same HDMI cables I had on the Yamaha which are Monoprice Certified Premium 18 Gbps.

Dolby Vision works perfectly with my Fire TV Stick 4K now, on the Yamaha I would get the Dolby Vision logo then no picture.

I was playing DVD and Blu Ray movies on two different devices and the screen would black out constantly on both with the Yamaha. No issues with the Denon.

I could use the TV Apps on my LG C8 and stream the audio via ARC. I got Dolby Atmos from the Disney Plus shows and no audio dropouts.

This Denon s750 is far better than the Yamaha as far as stability. No bugs or issues at all. Yeah it doesn't have HDMI 2.1 but I'm not a gamer and the HDMI 2.1 chipset in the Yamaha is broken anyway and apparently can't be fixed by firmware.

The setup menus on the Denon are very Atari/Commodore 64ish but they work.

The On Screen volume is much bigger and the Info button shows you everything you need such as the incoming signa, l the speaker input and output and sound mode. The actual display on the AVR shows what decoder your are using.

This Denon just works with no hiccups. The Yamaha is going back to Costco tomorrow. And I saved $80.

Hopefully they work out many of the bugs on the Yamaha for those of you who are keeping it.

Damn, my Costco had several of these on the shelf so I nabbed one. The plan was to test one out and if it passed muster replace four ancient Onkyo's. Now that I'm reading all of these issues I'm not sure I'll go to the effort of even installing it. I don't need crazy high-end stats but this one seemed to offer the best features for the money with also being the most future-proof for the price tag. It seems a significant step forward on paper compared to what I've been using forever but I'm not looking to sign up for random issues I have to deal with. Say what you will about Onkyo but these refurb units have been rock solid other than one finally just not powering on one day after many years of duty. Lately they had gotten worse with HDMI issues so I wasn't looking into the newer models to replace these older thanks I have currently. I had hoped that the Yamaha may be the next step as the Denon's tend to be pretty spendy from my research.

Can you get a similar Denon that does support HDMI 2.1 for around the $4000 price tag of the Yamaha?

Yes, you can easily get one for $4000 but I'm sure you meant $400. The answer is no. The cheapest Denon with HDMI 2.1 is either $699 or $799.

Plus the Denon units only have 1 HDMI 2.1 input while this Yamaha has 3.

It is a great bang for the buck. But in my opinion the major issue is that the 8k / 4k @ 120 hz HDMI chip may or may not be usable as intended or promised. (The rest of the issues may be just random equipment incompatability).

It's certainly disappointing that all this-gen 8k receivers may suffer from this as they use the same chip. So, if you are buying it for that future-proofing, or intend to game with the next-gen gaming systems, that may never come to fruition and it's best to return it and wait things out. Here's hoping your existing ancient systems can last a little bit longer =).

(I bought one also, then realized I am going to go 4 ceiling speakers for ATMOS, so I am going to return it as it can't do 5.1.4).

Yeah, $400 is what I was going for there.

Does this one have Chromecast/Google Cast? I don't see it in the specs listed anywhere so I assume not. I've got an old HDMI Chromecast for streaming audio/music to so that's not the end of the world but I'd like to see it built in as it's something we use enough it could be a deal maker/breaker. I know that the Denon doesn't have this either though so in this particular aspect it's likely a draw.

On one hand the thought is to go with the Yamaha since the 4k @ 120fps may not work properly but 1) this could be resolved via a firmware update or recall and 2) it doesn't work at all on the Denon nor will it ever given the hardware limitations. To me that would be worth the $80 premium. There's also some other features that come with the newer Yamaha (Google Cast for example)

The problem though is the other issues secondary to the 2.1/4k@120 issue I'm hearing about. Handshake issues, audio sync issues, new app issues and lesser audio quality from the Yamaha units compared to the "warmer" sound from similarly priced Denon units.

Man, this is a trickier decision than I thought it was going to be.

Well, one of them has already crapped out (the one we use most in our main sitting room so I had to "borrow" the one from my least used area this time of year which is the shop in the garage) which is what necessitates this search in the first place. At the latest I'll need one next Spring or possibly even sooner if one of the remaining ones craps out which I'm assuming will probably happen prior to the Spring deadline.

So it seems as though the big separator in the 2019 device and this 2020 one is the HDMI 2.1 aspect. But even if that specific aspect doesn't function properly on this receiver currently, it still is basically the same as the Denon in question, right? By that I mean that they will both do the same basic thing leading up to the holy grail benchmark of 4k@120 where this one may or may not do it eventually, right? No matter what, that Denon will never be capable of that task whereas this one should.

The "good news" if there is any is that it's a known hardware defect across MANY manufactures. This will be more difficult for manufacturers to not make right as many will be expecting rectification of a major feature that they paid for. Whereas if it was a smaller manufacturer they could just hope that the smaller number of those affected gets tired of demanding. Odds are good there will be a fix either in the form of software or hardware that is issued to those who own this receiver since it was marketed as such where the likelihood of the 2019 getting HDMI 2.1 is right about 0% odds.

Since they're both from Costco buy both. They have an easy return policy.

Denon doesn't have built in Chromcast/Googlecast

I don't see why that would be a deal breaker if you already have a HDMI Chromecast available.

Do whatever works best for you.
