This is a great game if you are a fan of Ghostbusters 1 and 2 (movies). I recently played this remastered version for PS4, and I played it when it was originally released for Gamecube. (EDIT: As somebody rightly pointed out, I originally played this on the Wii, not Gamecube. Got my old Nintendo systems mixed up.) Haven't played the Switch version.

It truly is the closest thing we will ever get to "what would it have been like if they had made Ghostbusters 3 soon after Ghostbusters 2."

-Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis script doctored for the game, including a ton of dialogue. End result is that the Ghostbusters talk (and talk A LOT) just like the Ghostbusters are supposed to talk. The game/script is genuinely, for the most part, funny.
-All four Ghostbusters are voiced by their actors. (You play a silent 5th newbie Ghostbuster recruit while the original four joyously banter around you.)
-Lots of other voice talent from the movies return for their characters. Even Walter Peck is in this thing. Even friggin Max Von Sydow is in this thing just to voice a few new original lines from Vigo that are essentially throwaway Easter Eggs. Really only Louis/Rick Moranis is missing.
-Proton pack feels like using a proton pack. Wrangling ghosts above and into a trap feels like wrangling ghosts above and into a trap. Game makes you feel like a Ghostbuster. (You get other weapons, but nothing feels as good as using the classic.)
-Plot includes getting to fight some classical villains from the first two movies, as video games often find a way to make happen.

BAD (so you trust me):
-Although the gameplay parts are remastered, they did not remaster the video cutscenes. So you go from remastered 1080p (or whatever the Switch is) to what appears to be 360p video. This is fairly rare, but is slightly jarring.
-Bill Murray turns in what I would describe as a half-assed performance. But the writers/Akroyd/Ramis seem to have predicted this would happen and Venkman doesn't get as much "screentime" as the other Ghostbusters. The other three Ghostbusters voice-act their asses off and are fantastic, most especially Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis. (Since they helped write the script I guess they were a little more invested.)
-The romance subplot between Venkman and a new character played by Alyssa Milano is super cringey. Alyssa Milano herself is pretty terrible in this.
-As mentioned earlier, although the traditional proton pack stream feels amazing to use to wrangle ghosts, the other weapons you get access to kind of suck. But you can just avoid using them for most of the game (except against certain harder enemies that are weak to those other weapons... can ignore this usually except a few harder spots).
-Even remastered, game is showing its age gameplay-wise. If you don't like Ghostbusters 1 and 2, you will probably want to skip this game. The "Ghostbusterness" is 80% of the reason to buy this. I can't see anybody who doesn't like Ghostbusters to begin with enjoying this game. If you love the movies, though, this thing is great just for the story alone. Decent game is icing on the cake.

Last, be aware there are two current Ghostbusters video games. There is this remastered "Ghostbusters the Video Game Remastered" which is a story-drive campaign and is awesome. The other one is just called "Ghostbusters" and is a multiplayer coop thing that sucks (in my opinion). Make sure you don't accidentally buy the wrong one. Wink
Yes, this would be perfect. The voice actors are all of the original cast from the movies and was stated by Dan Aykroyd to be what the third movie that was never made "was supposed to be."

Even if you didn't want to play the game, I'd suggest watching the cutscene compilation on YouTube. It's fantastic.

This brought back so many memories from the trailer alone that I'm tempted to buy this. They really know how to target adult kids from the 80s and 90s

How old are your kids? Wondering if a 6 year old would be able to play or if it's too challenging. Thx!

Best Ghostbusters game ever and puts the 2016 Ghostbusters movie to shame.

Great game, I remember renting it once as a teenager many years ago and kinda wanted to rent it again but never did. And now I'm older and definitely can treat myself to this and re-live the great memories

I'd meant to get this game on many a system now and then, but for some reason just never got around to it. The sheer convenience of the Switch finally did me in.
