I bought and played the base game (Sword) when it released. Beat the story mode in probably 35-40 hours, didn't keep playing after that, but I think there are incentives to continue to do raid battles, catch more 'mons, level up, etc.. If you're a completionist, this game will keep you busy for a while. For me, the story was nothing special (like any Pokemon game IMO), but I had a lot of fun playing and enjoyed seeing some updates to the standard Pokemon formula.

A bit of a PSA for anyone curious:
There is currently separate DLC for this game ("The Isle of Armor") and one more major DLC drop to come on October 22nd ("The Crown Tundra"). I believe the expansion pass is $30 at the eShop on top of the base game price.

Once all DLC has been released, they're planning to re-release both Sword and Shield games with all the expansion content included. The release date for the re-release is November 6th.
IMHO you can't go wrong with either, but personally I think "Let's Go" would be the better introduction into the Pokemon series for a 6 year old. I've played and finished both games' "campaigns" and I thoroughly enjoyed them both. "Let's Go" is more straightforward, I think most kiddos would get a little overwhelmed by the Sw/Sh games vs "Let's Go".

If this is your kid's first Pokemon game, I'd suggest Let's Go Pikachu. If they're already familiar with the series, either is great, but Sw/Sh definitely has more content/after game stuff plus the DLC (should you choose to purchase it separately). I personally prefer Sw/Sh, but I'm a 37 year old nerd so. Smilie

Hope this helps! Smilie

Both Sword and Shield are available at that price point. Good discount on a rarely discounted franchise

Sword also $40 on Amazon now - physical only. Can anyone get them to price match the digital code?

Words on the street that there will be a physical copy with the expansion pass being included in the cartridge. No DLC code, second cartridge. All in one cartridge, basically for $99.99? It has not confirmed yet

No.

Look like it had already been confirmed. I'm so behind on gaming news.

Sword and Shield. I have let's go evvee. After beating it, there's not much to do. It's takes like 30 hours to beat, not even maybe less

Yeah, that's what I meant but the link didn't come through very well. You can select it as an option on Amazon from that link I shared, available November 6, taking pre-orders.

Does this allow different save files or would a new profile need to be made on the switch?

LGPE has 151 pokemon while Sword and Shield have 400 without the DLC. so Sword and Shield is clearly the better choice.
