FWIW, there is also a comparable Dewalt (BUT SINGLE BEVEL), but seems harder to find for me at least. For a hobbyist, the Metabo seems to get slightly better reviews and will likely last me forever.

You are talking single bevel versus double bevel, apples and oranges.

I forgot to post that initially. Dewalt gets better ratings for metal construction, but yes, if you need double bevel, a single bevel literally won't cut it.

Nice deal for this. I got the 10" sliding version a few months ago for $150, which is sometimes more useful than a 12" non-sliding miter though.
They have plenty of this 12" one in stock at this price in my area in multiple stores.

i have had this saw for a few years now. this is as good a price as you will find. it is an excellent saw in every way. you won't find a better saw at this price and it has a 5 year warranty

I owned the hitachi version of this saw , and mine was very sloppy. The miter detents had almost a full degree of play , and the movable fences had a lot of back and forth play as well. This is a problem if you cut crown nested , you'd never get the same spring angle as the fence never stays in the same spot. I returned it, looked on the used market , and bought a dewalt 12" slider

Can anyone else who owns this hitachi chime in on how the quality is ? Was mine just a lemon or anyone else have a similar experience ? I've owned 10" hitachis before and they were pretty good quality, but ever since metabo bought hitachi I've pretty much stayed away

I've the Hitachi version. Love it since day 1. Reliable, precise, and solid built. I did my basement, yard flower beds, and garage racks using it.

I tried the Dewalt version from my contractor. I'll say that they are equally well-build. At this price, it'll be no brainer to get this

I have a Ryobi 10-in sliding single bevel. I want to get this for the smaller footprint and double bevel but would lose the cross cut capacity. Think that it is a minor pro for the Ryobi?

I don't have any saws and would like to start making my own stuff like desks, bookshelves, etc. I'm guessing I'd be better served by getting a circular saw first?
