For those that want to avoid the TN screen, as I did, I got this Acer Aspire 5 model on Amazon back in March for $325 and upgraded the ram to 8gb for maybe $20 more.

This model will have the backlit keyboard some want and the better screen that I think everyone wants.
It works fantastic for work and personal use (we are not power users). Post Covid, it's price has been fluctuating heavily but consistently higher than what we paid. I mainly bring this up because most recently, during Amazon prime days, it was a lightning deal for about $225-$250 which was an incredible deal that got snatched up FAST. If you are on the fence about this laptop, rest assured, there are going to be deals to be had for black Friday. One of the worst things you can do with a laptop is settle and then be unhappy with the screen, keyboard, etc. I just wanted to throw this out as a reference point for other really good models in a similar price bracket.
@ $350 price point that trend is going to continue forever. backlit keyboards are a luxury that you aren't going to find on a laptop this cheap.
now I'm just waiting for someone to chime in that they are passing because this doesn't have a 300nit IPS 1080p screen
Got it from the last time...My 12 years old love it...Screen is not the best, but it's fast and perfect for his school remote learning...
It's $350...If you need a high end laptop-what are you doing here???

I bought an Acer about a year ago for right around the $300 mark that has it...so I know they are out there! But I agree it is hard to find on the cheap models.
Nice. People in that thread complain about the horrible viewing angles, as expected of a TN screen. 37Wh battery. Not a fan of the low end Acer personal because every single one I see in store just feels so craptastic. There is a way to make plastic look good but Acer aesthetic is the worse if you walk brick and motor stores and browse laptops. No card reader if that is important.
I fully expect to buy a sub-$400 laptop this year with a 15" 1080 IPS (non-touch) screen and upgradeable RAM.
Good luck. It's either going to have a 3 year old processor, be a refurb, or more likely both. Laptop prices have gone up since COVID and the low end machines are/were in the highest demand so deals have been few and far between.
